Buzzing noise from solenoid area in engine
My 2012 X3 35i has recently developed a buzzing noise that seems like it's coming from the left side of the engine (as looking at the engine from the front). I was in for my 30K service the other day and wouldn't you know it wasn't making the noise nor were they able to reproduce it. It seems like it could be outside temp related. It's warmer the last few days and the buzzing is back. Could something be going in the solenoid? Anyone else have this sort of sound?

I've noticed 'after shutdown' noises on many occasions and put them down to either electric pumps in the turbo or HVAC systems. I believe that the turbo's oil pump is programmed to run on after shutdown, which is useful if you've had a period of high speed running and the auto stop/start kicks straight in!

Yeah I hear noises after the engine is shutoff but i just attributed them to the little hamsters breathing heavy. The noise that I'm hearing happens when the engine is running and immediately stops when the engine is shutoff. Plus I don't have auto start/stop.

I'd be suspecting that one of the heatshields are vibrating.
I too have a definite buzzing coming from what I think is the transmission heatshield and it only does it when the car's stationary, in Drive & held on the brake. I think it's been mentioned somewhere here before. |
