Anyone know the quarts or liters required for an oil change in our m40 i's? Owners manual does not divulge.

Along the lines of this post, what type and weight do you (plan to) use in your X4 M40i?
The 2017 manual is way too generic and include phrases like "viscosity SAE 0W-20 or SAE 5W-20 are only suitable for particular engines." So I am left wondering whether I have a "particular engine" in my M40i? WTF were they thinking - writing one manual for all their vehicles?

One thought I had was that perhaps the new B-type motors are "particular engines." Lower weight probably increase gas mileage but may also mean increased oil consumption thru blow-by. Are the new B-type motors engineered to different internal tolerances that would benefit from these lighter oils? I dunno.

What I do know is that page 231 of my manual is complete BS. Shame on you BMW.

So, today I looked under the hood of my car (let's call it a 2,000 mile driveway inspection) and found a sticker attached to the underside of the hood near the center. It simply has a schematic rendering of a can of oil and it says "SAE 0W-30." Guess I will go with that weight.

I am using Castrol European blend 0W40. BMW approved. Wal-mart has it for about $25 for the 5 quart jug.

I use Mobil 1 5W50 in my Porsche but Mobil is no longer approved by BMW, go figure. Castrol will be fine.

I was shocked at a SAAB aftermarket conference in the US many years ago, when a Mobil representative told us that there were different variants of Mobil 1, of which the European Mobil1 had best specification!

Haven't used Mobil since.

We get excellent UOA's with Mobil 1 in the Porsche forum.
