Short report after installation today. Sport= legal Track= non-legal. Engine is STD 35i. Exterior sound is even better than in Russian video: Sport has moderate loudness with overtones of high pitch sound. Like 400+ bhp. Track has strong sound with blend of "gurgles" and high pitch sound. Like 500+bhp That alone "pays" for the investment Interior sound is currently problematic to evaluate - I ordered system 10 weeks ago - since then winter has arrived in Sweden - I have new studded tires with a fair amount of studs and fairly long studs= much roadnoise. I could hardly hear exhaust sound in Sport - other than a bit of rumble- like STD, but a bit more so. During acceleration engine sound was more obvious. Cruising in Track gave a heavier rumble - but no significant exhaust sound. Acceleration/high revs in Track gave significant exhaust sound, similar to exterior sound, and put a smile on my face!! I will get back after more driving, but can not give final evaluation until summertires. I will take pics ASAP. Developer/supplier of exhaust is Red Arch Engineering/Manufacturing of central UK= Midlands. Midlands happens to be the area where about 80% of all Formula 1 cars are being developed and manufactured AND 80% of all F1 components. |

Sank: Thanks! I am very happy with it.
My only problem is roadnoise with studded tires - we just got our first snow. I "need" to use Track mode to hear sound from exhaust. I am waiting for spring, when I, hopefully, can hear exhaust sound even in "Sport" - it usually does not pay off to drive illegal regularily. I wrote to the developer/supplier: Red Arch Eng./Manuf. in the UK, and asked for a scheme of the internal tubing/walls, but I got a nice mail back saying that they were unable to provide that for secrecy reasons. It is halfway bull - anybody can dismantle the muffler - but they must be careful not to anger BMW. |

I have it on my 9000. X4 is for snow and skiing in north of Sweden- also driving on ice-tracks while up north. I did that last year - this year will be even more fun with the "500+bhp - sound"

I actually live up north with the snow and skiing you mention and I switched to non-studded tires a couple of years ago...never looked back. Silky smooth and just as good grip. Only difference; with studded tires you'll hear when you loose grip.

Scandic. I disagree. I happen to have experience with most types of tires - including rally studded tires. On slippery ice - like what you- typically - have on an ice track, there is a significant difference - not to talk about rally studs .
I do agree that, for most times, even in north of Sweden there is marginal difference, but I wanted maximum grip for ice driving. Since 9000 is very good on ice/snow- even with non-studded tires - I get away with it during most trips around home. |

How do we know if this is better than the stock exhaust on M40i =D Like before (X4 35i stock) and after (MPE) videos would be great for the whole forum.

ROBNYC, you have it all on this thread - the Russian car:
-video 1 - STD -video 2 - Klappen - Sport and Track -video 3 -Klappen being dynotested. Do you think it is fake just because it is Russian? Mine has exactly the same sound |

ROBNYC, sorry video from You Tube, supplied by person from Poland. Note the "dark clouds" coming from exhausts att max. revs. Oil or fuel? I believe fuel to reduce exhaust temperatures - an old SAAB trick.

Guys, spring is in the air - time to plan for some upgrades.
SANK and ROBNYC are home free - they have ordered M40i and have to make do with its exhaust . All others, with 35i, now is the time for some real joy of driving - listen to the Russian car and have a look at my installation in this thread. I am longing for the moment when I can put on summertires - now sound is hampered by studded tires. |
