My spec has auto, DAB and ally trim. So I am probably doomed... Although in the case of the DAB I have ordered a nav option.

The DAB should be fine then. It was a list of restrictions and the DAB was in the Price List with that clause. I cannot believe the one thing they run out of is gearboxes though, as I believe versions of the same Auto goes in the 5, 6 and 7 Series yet they only have a 6 Week Delay due to Gearbox Shortages.

Must admit the auto box shortage is a little surprising.

I moderate on a MINI forum and we had a lot of members on there complaining about not getting the std fit DAB radio on their Facelift MINI's at the back end of last year, also there was a chronic shortage of alloys for the new Countryman when it was launched. Can understand the issues with some of the electronic parts given what happened in Japan, but BMW really need to sort their scheduling out...

I'm still being told my 3.0D auto is due 3rd Oct from a week 31 build. I won't get my hopes up though.

I was quoted week 47/48 for mine when ordered: no word from the dealer yet he said he would keep me up-dated, probably lying low. Mine has auto and ali trim. If this delay is the case I will be driving a 2012 car!

F25 4AD - Brushed Aluminium Trim

Bit of a bummer really as I was hoping to get my car in September.
I don't see how even a 12 week delay on a part should affect the delivery date on a car that doesn't usually even start production until about 6 months after the order is placed. All of the options are known at the point the order is placed. Do they wait until the car starts production and then say "right, now what parts do we need for this one? Damn, the powered bootlid has got a 10 week wait. Doh! Why didn't we order it 6 months ago?".

Perhaps 8-12 week delays are now out of BMW's hands because of how they decided to source their components (badly) but to add 8-12 weeks to timelines that are already 10 months plus is just taking the piss IMO

I wonder if my choice of Manual, and none of the known delayed options, may improve my expected delivery date of 23 March 2012. I can dream!

Spot on Sfax, if they don't, then what a bunch of muppets, they don't deserve our cash.

When I used to work in this sector the JIT - Just in Time - systems were often called, Just Not Quite in Time. 8 to 12 weeks is way out. They must have a relatively small restriction on Autos other wise they might as well close the plant, I don't expect that manuals make up a large proportion of production.

Finally got hold of the dealer today regarding changing from a 2.0 to 3.0. The bottom line is that if I want to swap I have to start again. Currently delivery dates for 3.0d at my dealer is Feb 2012....

Having waited since Feb already I am not entirely sure what to do. I would prefer the 3.0, but not sure I can wait for another 7 months...

Depends how much you want it really. I wouldn't have waited more than 4 months when I ordered and can't believe the state of the delivery times now.

I would set March 1 rather than some time in Feb too so you get an '12 plate guaranteed. Adds value if you sell in the first three years or so

After a lot of thought I have ordered a 3.0d to the same spec as before this morning. The wait is a pain, but I feel I am doing the right thing. Someone on the list for a 2.0 at my dealer is about to get very lucky....

BUYACAR.CO.UK Sucks

Ordered my car through BUYACAR.CO.UK on the 30/12/10. After chasing for information on it, finally told on the 27/07/11 the dealer could not deliver on the order. Due to a fallout with BMW, I was not told the full story. To say i was disappointed is an under statement . They offered to reorder with another dealer with a 24 week estimate for delivery . Told them where to go .
Browsing the BMW website (X3's forsale) noticed a 3.0d M Sport, gave them a phone but that car is a demonstrator and not forsale for at least 3 months.
I asked a silly question " do you have any build slots for a 2.0d " . The reply left me speachless " yes we have a biuld slot in 2 weeks time". .
Ordered new X3 with a few changes. Confirmed today car still on schedule after a revamp of spec .
So anybody thinking of ordering through 3rd party dealers DON'T .
It's not worth the hassle.
Last thing Congrats to Washy on his order .

Sorry to hear that (the first part!). Not the first time i've heard a no show from a third party and there is nothing you can do. Even more of a risk using a third party when the delivery lead times are so huge so I would also avoid like the plague if ordering a new X3. Good work on the 20d build slot. Hope it comes good

Ditto. And recommend running an HPI check on any trade in (or askyour dealer to share!), as dealers are so desperate for margins they are giving rubbish trade in values - HPI will tell you exactly what your car is worth this month.

The Wait Is Almost Over

I have been following this thread for months since I ordered my X3 in early February, with varying degrees of dismay as folk seemed to be getting delays for any number of reasons. But got told today from the dealer in Edinburgh that the car has left the plant and is on the way over for a w/c 5th September delivery to Scotland. It is an auto and it does have bluetooth / hands free so problems with these extras do not look like an issue at the moment.

To be fair to the dealer they have advised first week of September since about May, so good to their word.

Only 1 month to go
