Color Choices

Folks, I'm looking at a new X3 M Sport, downsizing from an X5. I like Vermilion Red but can only see it with beige. I already have oyster in a 335is.
I like Mojave but don't see it with red. It looks great with a white M Sport but my X5 was white with beige. I'm looking for something different this time.

Thoughts on Vermillion Red with Mojave? Other combos?

I'm a little partial to Mineral Silver Metallic, Chestnut Nevada Leather and Fineline Wave Wood Trim.

If you're set on the Vermilion Red exterior, I would recommend either the Oyster or even the Mojave leather, with Sienna wood trim. I think these work as alternatives to the black or beige leather.

I didn't like the Mojave in person at all. The black looks great with the white stitching, so I would say if VR is a must, my preference would be black with dark wood trim. The contrast to the metallic red will look hot.

I recommend vr with black leather interior. And aluminium brushed details.

I have some pictures of my own in the pic section, but I can take more images if needed? Tough it is winter here and not that much light.

One thing I would change to my own color combo, I would take the dark roof lining as well.

OP: Also look for some posts about some people wanting to sell or trade aluminum trim for wood.

Any one tried having the interior trims painted piano black? As a shame this isn't an option

If you haven't seen the dark wood in a black interior....check it out in person. I much prefer vs aluminum, and honestly I think piano black would be too boring. The fineline wood is surprisingly dark and the grain gives it a cool depth that it needs, vs a piano black.

Totally agree. I got Fineline Wave wood with Black Nevada interior and think it looks great.

My Dad has an X3 M Sport in Carbon Black with Oyster Leather and I can absolutely recommend that combination! We just love the Carbon Black. It looks great on the X3 I think.

In my opinion the Vermilion Red exterior goes well especially with beige and black interiors. Oyster and Mojave are okay. I've seen VR with Chestnut- awful clashing combo.

Maybe it is a bit cultural difference, but I do not like inconsistent interior colors and adding shiny wood panels here and there makes the interior look like designed with shotgun.

Reasoning number two is that there is already "aluminium" colored details in the dash, gagepanel and everywhere (door handles, etc.), aluminium combines great with these.

Reasoning number three is that "off-roader" which is not really luxury car (as Bentley) just doesn't go with shiny wooden panels. Matte wood might work?

And reasoning number four is that brushed aluminium ages better. No need to be careful with keys, coins, jewelry (rings) or anything.

As said, I like coherent interior coloring and that is why I did not order shiny details on dash, even though they were free option. Only mistake I made was that I didn't order dark grey inner roof lining.

And the final word: inside your car, you shouldn't have any reflecting surfaces besides mirrors. Just like rallycars

Kudos to Mini, BMW and Audi. You don't see these conversations on many of the other cars because they don't let you choose. You get black or beige according to what they think goes with the exterior you choose.

Personally, I think it matters little (not completely, just a little) how well exterior and interior colors go with each other. There are few times when both colors are consumed together. What I think is more important is how the headlining, carpeting, seat covering and trim all go together. IMHO, you need not restrict yourself to only a few colors if you have a knack for putting things together visually. Personally, I currently don't like beige because I have had it on every car for the last 16 years. But I've noticed that with both beige and gray you end up with headline, carpets and seats all the same and so little else to work with.

IMHO, If you make the interior color coordinating with exterior a major factor, then you may miss the chance to make a snazzy interior combination. Black interior puts them all together which makes your trim and stitching (if there is contrasting one) stand out. But you may like the homogeneousness of beige and grey so go for it. But on the other hand, black and tan are the all too common colors you get on non-luxury cars.....

You are going to spend a lot of time on the inside seeing the interior so like your clothes and jewelry, my basic rule is similar to choosing clothing. Pick it because you like the way you look to yourself and it's how you want to be seen. The latter is where exterior colors (body color, moulding, lights, roof color, rails, exterior trim, pillars etc) come in.

But to your question, color-wise (I have a visual design background) a VR exterior and Mojave interior is fine in terms of those two colors not clashing. In fact, according to BMW, the only colors they don't recommend are VR and Chestnut but I have seen photos of them so you can order it if you want. One of the nice things is how Mojave matches the dark wood trims (I was in an X3 with that combination on Friday).

YMMV

Sorry wood ( not that I actually think it looks like wood) just doesn't do it for me, hence stuck with the standard mat silver

Thanks all for the comments. It comes down to VR/Sand Beige, VR/Mojave, or AW/Mojave. This would be my 9th BMW and 2nd X3, the other was an '06. My colors so far have been all too common and conservative
540i Aspen Silver/gray
M5 Titanium Silver/Black
X3 Black Saph/Tan
650i Black Saph/Sand Beige
550i SpaceGray/Sand Beige
Z4 Black Saph/Ivory
X5 Alpine White/Tan
335is Space Gray/Oyster

Certainly VR/Mojave will be different for me.

VR is a gorgeous red. I might have purchase VR/Oyster if my wife hadn't just purchased a new car with similar colors.
