Floor Liners, Floor Mats Which is Better?
The "All-Weather Floor Liners" that are more plastic, rigid, and perhaps deeper (higher walls)... Then there are the "All-Weather Rubber Floor Mats" that are more flexible, rubber, and maybe not quite as form fitting???
I live in Colorado so we'll need something for the winter. Which is better? Has anyone had experience with one or the other or both? Insights please. |

I'm getting the Liner because in the back it protects the tranny hump.

I prefer the floorliners as they have better coverage. My only complaint is that you need to anchor the driver's side with the Weathertech clips which means screwing into the floor. The liners do not have the velcro like the factory mats.
I found if you do not anchor the driver's mat, it slides around too much. |

I recommend both. I have the rubber mats, which are great for rain, but snow is a different beast, and I am about to get a set of liners and cargo tray for winter.
What drtdvl said about having to use the Weathertech clips for the liner is, I think, only applicable if you get the Weathertech liners. I don't have the BMW liners yet, but they say that they use "the approved BMW retention system," so I assume the driver's mat is Velcro-backed. If not, someone with the BMW liners please correct me. |

Caz681 is correct - When i phoned Weathertech about supplying velcro attachments, they said they have no plans to change their clips to velcro.
I wasn't aware BMW sold floor liners. When i picked up my X3, only rubber mats available. |

Both, I love it!
I think you're right. Both is a good option. I'm going to start off with the liners and see what I like about them... as Winter rolls in, I may pick up a set of the rubber mats.

Since you already have the floor liners I don't see any reason for you to go and purchase the rubber mats. Although the liners don't come with velcro they seem to be more form fitting than the normal rubber ones so it's probably unlikely for them to shift around much.

so now that floor mats are included on the 2012 X3s what do they give you? the carpet or all weather ones. Might have to be another thing I talk to my dealer about (prefer all weather because of the salt in Chicago and having 2 little kids and a wife that spill all the time).

Car came with carpeted floor mats
My car actually came in today... I haven't picked it up yet, but did go down for a visit before the detail shop and accessories are added. I noticed in the back there were carpeted floor mats. If I'm not mistaken, those are now a standard item on the 2012 x3s.
I didn't read anywhere where you had a choice. I just assumed they came with the carpeted one's and you could add rubber or liners if you wanted (at a cost). I ordered liners for now. We'll see how they go. Picking up car on Saturday... It's crazy the car is in and I'm not ready to pick it up... No worries, anticipation is part of the fun I suppose. |

I too was in a similar situation; X3 arrived at the dealership, sat inside the car then CA went over all the features, got out then went over all the paperwork/warranties/etc with the finance manager, charged $5k on CC (for the reward points) then they told me personal checks are no good and that they needed a cashier's...it was Saturday afternoon so the banks were closed. I ended up having to get the car Monday and I wasn't able to go myself, my sister did it for me and was the first one to drive the car. I wish you well and hope you don't go insane over the anticipation. |

I just ordered the cargo liner from weathertech. I also ordered the front and rear awhile ago. I also have the all season from BMW. The BMW all season are best in the front seats. Much better fit. The weather tech is actually more use andd fits better in the rear seat. Cargo liner...will find out soon.

Mine came with carpet mats which I removed and replaced with the BMW plastic liners. The drivers side liner came with velcro already installed to match the location of the existing floor anchors. However no velcro or anchors supplied for the passenger side, which does slide forward with use.
I also found with normal use (car wash, etc) that the "X-Line" badge on each front liner came unglued and was lost. What I do like is the fact that the rear liner is one-piece, (friction) fits securely, has no badging to fall off, and protects the driveline hump. Chiefly because of the badging and front passenger-side issue, I'm going to try the BMW rubber mats for the front. |

Half and half...
Sounds like each has it's own benefits. The liner on the driver side sounds like it fits and works well, but might slip on the passenger side. I will try velcro tape when I get the car.
Most say the liner fits the best for the rear seats since it protects the drivetrain hump. Beyu - your experience is interesting in that my dealership DOES accept personal checks but I can only put $3K on the CC. Maybe since I'm financing about half the car they feel it's a safer bet? It sounded like you might be paying for the entire car with personal check and I could see them wanting to be sure it would clear. Nevertheless... still waiting... Maybe this anticipation thing is overrated?

Thanks for the Pics...
Thanks for the pics Dukat. Anyone have pics of the rubber mats in place? I always envision the rubber ones being a little smaller and maybe less conforming.
