I have them. They are great for backroad driving. They turn themselves off in neighborhoods with streetlights, when cars are approaching, or when slowing down. They turn back on at speeds somewhere between 25-35 mph.

You can't know if they really work unless you're the guy coming the other way

Was my reaction, too. Thought the same about the Auto Hold function, though. I now use that on every commute and love it. Thinking perhaps I should have coughed up the extra few bucks and tried out the auto highbeams -- disabling it if I didn't like it.

Nahoa I too like the auto-hold but have been a bit worried about some ding-a-ling behind me that does not see brake lights of mine and rear ends me. But-just thought-are the brake lights on or off?

Had the same question -- they're on. On a sort of related issue, I didn't realize until just recently that this car has rear daytime running lights. Very cool.

So I kind of went wild on this one and checked every single box. Every one. Except the auto highbeams. Though I honestly don't think I'll wind up regretting that, you never know. The one thing I was on the fence on and am now really glad was the HUD. Having the nav symbology there is much cooler than I imagined. |

I have them on the Z.
I find them annoying as they keep flicking to low beam when lights reflect off road signs, but yet they don't dip quite fast enough for the oncoming traffic. When they are on high beam, you can't manually dip the lights without engaging full highbeam, then dipping to low beam. This is painful for pedestrians as it takes you a couple of seconds to cycle through the process. All of which time you are blinding them with the Xenons. That being said. I haven't been that bothered as yet that I can bring myself to write off what I paid for the feature and disable them. Thinking I should go do it now though. I've talked myself into it.

Had them didn't like them and will / haven't ordered them again. I think a gizmo that works great on paper / under ideal condition but simply didn't work well enough in the real world (or at least my world!)

I have them on my M5 - love them! As someone posted here, you don't know their effectiveness unless you're the oncoming vehicle - well, I tested that too - had a friend drive towards me with and without my auto high on - tested a couple of times both ways and the auto high won both times ... When I get around to ordering my new X3, it will have them too. My M5 is fully loaded and worth every stinking penny - would do the same on the X3 too

I have them on my current car and like them. I tend to forget to dim my lights and this solves that problem. The X3 has a button on the stalk that you turn the auto high beams on and off with so it is very easy to disable or enable them. The default is off so you actually have to turn them on each time. I have them ordered on my X3 and look forward to getting to use them. They are like many options a nice convenience.

Me too! I did a fully loaded order except the auto-beams and BMW apps. The later was because apps work for only iPhone 3gs and 4.. I am planning to buy the iPhone 5 and rumors say its gonna b released pretty soon!
