Everybody happy with his runflats ?

I don't like my runflats Pirelli PZero 18inch, after one night they have flat spots
and they drive very uncomfortable.
Asked to my garage what they can do and they phoned the head office.
They said that BMW drivers are too exacting, they know that there are some complaints, that it's not their fault but definitely these from the tire manufacturer ...

No choice in the US. I have the Pzero's as well, and so far so good. Sounds to me like you just have defective tire or tires.

Never had any trouble with them myself. On cold days the flat spots worked out within 1 km.

I have had RFTs on two different cars and have had zero issues with them.

Combination of outside temperature and tire pressures can often exacerbate flat spots. you might also want to check that the wheels are correctly balanced

Had them on another vehicle and can't say anything negative really. I did though always like the idea that if my wife was out either alone or with kids that she would not get stuck somewhere...that alone was enough for me. I did however buy one of those slime kits (can't remember name) that has the portable compressor and slime built in.....just gave us another level of comfort and I'll definitely keep one in the x

Felt like the road was a little bumpy or wavy when it wasn't. Just enough to be noticeable.

Cool Runflats

I also have the Pirelli P7's RFTs on my 35i, I also had fun flats on my 335IX which were the legendary Bridgestone Tur*s Noisey, hard riding so I thew them away with half the tread left. I replaced them with Pirelli PZero Nero M+S runflats which are great - quiet good traction. I don't live in pot hole prone areas, we have frost heaves so tire sidewall failures have not been a problem.

This is my first run flat tire but I haven't notice anything wrong, they seem all fine. I have Goodyear.

Over 70k miles experience on three different sets of runflats. Our 2006 325i had those noisy Bridgestones that were junk in 14k miles but those were replaced for free with Continentals. Since then and on our 2008 328i we have had zero issues. Personally I think for a daily driven vehicle, RFTs are the only way to go.

Our F25 has the Pirelli Cinturato P7 installed. Apparently this is a brand new tire, so hopefully they will do well.

Great feedback. Reassuring as they are new to me, thanks

I didn't go for run flats - so far. Should I mod my order? A good thing or not? What's the consensus?

In the US we don't get a choice - it's runflats...or runflats. The biggest downside is unsprung weight which can give a harder ride if you have larger diameter wheels.

Thanks. I had heard that the ride might be harder and perhaps a bit more rolling resistance?

Better fuel economy on non run flats. I think they are special low rolling resistance tyres. They use these when they quote 50mpg

Also cheaper to replace

My 309s were selected purely on looks. I know they're more expensive to run and will give a slightly harsher ride but I wouldnt change them if I had the chance

Thanks, sfax. I chose my wheels purely on price
Not quite true, I did justify going for the standard 17s on ride quality and fuel economy and the ones I've seen so far do look OK.
But I've already added thousands onto my original order, so WTH I wouldn't want to spoil the ship for a ha'pe'th of tar as they say.

The recently posted Scandinavian photos of a AW with 17s made them look really nice. It would be interesting to test the ride and fuel economy accurately against larger wheels.

You should also bear in mind that most tyre fitters won't repair run flats so if you do get a puncture you'll have to replace the tyre at great expense. It's something to do with liability and the fact that they can't test for side wall damage in the same way that they could if it was a normal tyre. Even if the tyre can be repaired, they will often refuse to repair it - or so I've heard.
