All manufacturers use a similar paint process. If it was from production, it's a matter of quality control of the process, including materials.

I'm taking delivery of an Alpine White 20i X3 this Friday. It's somewhat difficult to go over the vehicle in detail at the dealer prior to taking delivery and even if I found imperfections I guess it would be a case of rectifying at a later date. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Are these only Alpine white problems? Quick glance and it looks so.

I keep my fingers still crossed, as my Vermillion red has no problems regarding paint job.

I have a Space Grey X3 which has 3 small patches that look like rust which has been painted over. I have only had the car for just over 3 weeks. Photos have been sent to BMW and it is booked in to be fixed later this month.

Attached is a picture of the latest patch I have found which is on the wheel arch inside one of the rear doors.

Hasn't BMW got the message there is a problem yet? Strange! How will they fix it? Complete panel repaint? Spot fix (if that could even be done)?

Does this not look like the panel was contaminated by something and then painted over? I would be very surprised if it is rust, more likely to be poor preparation prior to paint application.

The first thing I do with every new BMW is to get a clear front end paint protector including the headlights. On the M6 forum, a member suggested using Zaino clear seal on the car. I just finished putting Zaino AIO (all in one) and the clear seal over the AIO and it looks fantastic with a wet look. I am so pleased with the results that I will do my X3 next. The clear bra really helps. My X3 is a 2011 in Alpine white and it looks brand new. Zaino is slightly expensive and is only available from the manufacture but the stuff works like magic. Hope this help you guys out.
