Rear brake pads done after 15000

Anyone care to chip in on this topic again as I am unsure what happened on the last thread as posts are now removed but it seemed to result in lotus 7 leaving ??

Anyway, I just wondered if any one else was having what I would class as premature wear on rear brake pads with the indicator showing replacement due at 15000 miles

Hopefully this thread doesn\'t turn into a playground tussle (

The original thread was closed to new posts after the unfortunate ding dong that ensued.

Despite what people have said about extra wear caused by the extra weight of the X3 and the cruise control braking, I still think 15k is ridiculous and I would push for a warranty replacement under the premise that there must be a fault for them to wear down so quickly. It's worth a try to see what they say IMO

I've done about 3000 miles and the vehicle information was showing replacement in another 22K, if I remember correctly.
So 15K does seems a bit quick.

9000 miles on the clock

rears due in 16000 so 25000
fronts due in 31000 so 40000

oil due in 6000 so 15000 (first service)

And it's -3C. Brrrrr!

Cheers ! Anymore people please add to this list.

Seem strange as I would class myself as a fast driver that mine could be so much less ! Either sensor is wrong or rubbish pads ? I got one of the first x3s in uk back in December 2010

And your 20d surely wouldn't have worn so much more than WTT's 35i

What's the problem?

The X3 is a tub of lard with a faux traction control system that uses the rear brakes to prevent wheel spin. It shouldn't be a surprise.

What modern stability control doesn't use brakes?

And if the X3 used a system similar to Acura that increases the weight, complexity, price while reducing fuel efficiency and reliability you wouldn't be complaining?

I think the X3's approach is probably the best balance of performance, flexibility, simplicity, and cost. That is evident by most companies moving in that direction. Yeah Limited Slip Differentials are nice but they are more expensive, less efficient, and not as flexible.

I have covered 11,000 miles, a rough estimate is 50:50 split between motorway and stop/start driving.

Idrive says I still have 23,000 to go on the rear and 40,000 front.

This would get me to 34,000 rear and 51,000 front. Happy with that.

20,500 kms done so far, rear brake pads due in 8,000 kms while fronts due in 22,000 kms . Service in 2,900 kms according to the idrive.

How's Acura's traction/stability control different? Or are you talking about the torque vectoring (which is, IIRC is going away in the MY2013)?

Sounds like the brilliant bmw engineers tried to make things easy on customers. This way they can get new brakes with their oil changes and save extra trips to the dealer.

They sure do. My torque convertor was shot on my MDX at 50,000 miles. There is a huge thread on edmunds of over 500 posts with people having the same issue and being on their third transmission in under 100,000 miles. Dumped my Acura and won't ever go back.

This site is renowned for over zealous moderators and PC over kill. There are sometimes serious failures with BMWs that needs to be discussed but it gets deleted. Happens a lot on m3post with some of the dodgy tuners (who pay this site money) and are brought to account but then the posts mysteriously removed. It is well documented on other forums as the posts get posted over before they are deleted.

What happened to Lotus7? He added so much value and knowledge to this site.
