Also something people with the Pirelli tires might want to know. Pirelli runflats come with a manufacturer's ROAD HAZARD warranty which covers the tire fully for the first year or 2/32 wear and pro rated after that. This is NOT the BMW dealer add on warranty they try to hawk. This is from Pirelli. FYI this might just be applicable to US cars.

I just had a flat (3500 miles) and sent the BMW dealer the .pdf of the Pirelli run flat road hazard warranty that is stored on the CD that came with the car (tire manufacturer insert in owners manual). The dealer had never made a claim before. They called the Pirelli claims phone number on the .pdf and confirmed that Pirelli would pay for the tire and related labor charges. I qualified because I had owned the car less than a year and had used less than 2/32 of the tread. In other circumstances, Pirelli offers a pro-rated reimbursement, but does not cover the labor charges. However, regardless of who pays rthe bill, I think $486 to replace one tire is a bit steep!!
Pirelli recommends against any repair of their run-flat tires, but several of the other manufacturers say that a repair is acceptable in some circumstances. Not surprisingly, BMW said it will not repair a run-flat under any circumstances. |
