There is a small chance that some of the electronic components used might now have delays. iPad is in the news because of this. Also flash memory. Very difficult to tell in advance. I think it's unlikely

Very unlikely that there will be any detectable delay.

Question seems quite normal and far from 'sick', get down of your perch - after all it is a car forum!

The effect of the quake will be felt worldwide through emotion, business and pleasure activities (for example delay in manufacturing a car) - as tragic as the quake is life does not stop.

This question has nothing to do with morality nor with sympathy with others. I also could not sleep over those pictures of horrors and I have donated to the red cross too. However, this is a practical question so that some of us can plan life a bit better. I have worked hard and honestly to get this car and should not think that is evil if I do not stop thinking when I may take a road trip this summer with my new car or should i invest that money while waiting for my car to be delivered… I would have nothing against people reacting the same around the world as me if some disaster happened in Canada. Hopefully, happier people will be in better position to help others then those depressed ones.

Couldn't agree more, it's tragic what's happened/happening in Japan.
And if my car is delayed - I can't think of a more legitimate and understandable reason.
But to slap someone down, merely for inquiring re. possible delays... the world has gone mad with political correctness IMO.

I have friends and family members who have been effected by this disaster. Luckily no one I know has died, but it's still been really hard for them. All of Japan is suffering, and is likely to continue suffering for many years to come.
It's easy to look at this disaster and forget about the horrible economic ramifications. But the truth is, a lot of electronics production has been halted, major port is out of commission, tourism will be effected and so on. The Japanese people need more than just our emotional support. They need our financial support as well. One of the best ways you can help is to buy an iPad, drink an Asahi and drive a Toyota. Doing those things will put food on tables.

FWIW, my wife's father is Japanese, and I actually worked in Tokyo for two years. It's like my second home. This whole thing has been heart breaking for us.

1 it's a legitimate question on a car forum as the insurance cost and economic effects are both legitimate news stories. The human factor is by far and away the most important consideration and everyone knows that. To suggest someone is belittling the human cost by asking this question is misguided IMO

I watched a 1 hour program summary of the disaster to date last night and was completely blown away by the scale of it all. Very sad indeed to see individual family stories. An unimaginable situation that makes me realise how much I take for granted

GM closed a plant for some sort of hoses they installed in cars this week so others may follow suit. Who knows?

GM stopped making cars? At least something good has come from this tragedy.

Trying to figure this out and come to a conclusion is pointless. As most if not all of you will agree, I'm sure, none of us on these Boards has enough information about BMW inventories, policies, suppliers or the state of those suppliers in Japan to make even an intelligent guess.

Being someone who has just ordered a car, I'm resigned to taking a wait and see attitude. There's nothing wrong with being concerned and wanting to know how this particular tragedy might impact your order, but if cars are delayed then we can take solace in the fact that things could always be worse (as we've seen).

I just read that some hoses they use in their sedans will be needing to come from another place as the factory they produced these in has been heavily damaged. Nothing more.

I'll believe it when there is a press release. Dealers say the damnedest things.

They already had a 9 month lead time in the UK before the tsunami so I don’t see how it’s made any difference at all. To add to your woe, most people were given an optimistic delivery date that was later revised, in my case by nearly two months.

It's all down to demand and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it
