It's noisy but it kind of sounds like a loud camera shutter If easily reproducible, did the tech take a ride with you?

first time around, tech drove it and found couple of areas that was making noise, like driver side vent and center console above gear shifter. Interior trim was adjusted. But the sunroof makes noise if u hit a bump as per recording, its alot louder when ur driving that u think the glass broke

Maybe a loose fastener of some kind allowing the entire sunroof mechanism to shift on a bump. You would think they have some relatively easy way to get inside to look (i.e. 'design for serviceability' being the hope).

Write a letter to bmw (not email) and explain the service that you received.

Provide the YouTube link in your letter... They will watch it.. I'll guarantee you of that.

I trust at that point the dealership will have some explaining to do.

Copy the dealership on the letter too.

I'm having the exact issue. Started with the cold weather. Comes from where the two sunroof sections meet. If I cracks open the sunroof the noises go away

Dealer said this is a known issue but the first attempt to fix it made hardly any difference. Going back again on Tuesday

I have also experienced the same noises with the arrival of cold weather. Must be the plastics contracting. After a few days of observing and googling, I decided to buy some Velcro strips from walmart. I applied them on either side of the divide (on the plastic pieces). Problem solved. Even on the coldest day and bumpiest road, the roof is quiet. What is somewhat surprising/disappointing is that the E83 X3 had the same issue and there was a service bulletin out basically stating what I mentioned above. You'd think BMW would have made an effort to try and correct this minor issue with the F25. I also have some minor creaks coming from vents/dash but not sure how to resolve those. BMW if youre reading, customers expect a car in this class to have a vault-like interior.

When you guys talk about cold weather, what sort of temperatures does this noise start at?

Cheers

I have the same sounds from my roof and it also appeared when temperature fell below the freezing point.

Have had my local dealer to fix it, they claimed that they had adjusted to glass roof but the noise is still there...

+1

Exactly the same for me.

It's the black trim between the two sunroof that makes this noise. At my dealer they told me they have seen it often and they repair it by putting a foam in the black trim and it's 3 hrs work to remove, put the foam and reinstall the trim.

I have not yet made an appointment for that but in the meantime I stopped the noise by folding 2 clothes and placing them in the black trim.

It's in French but there are pictures that show how to set it yourself if you have pieces of foam. It is very easy, no tools required.

I took delivery on my 2013 on November 30. It was fine for the first few days, but when the temperature dropped I heard the noise. Took car to the dealer, they installed 2 felt strips on the front sunroof glass. It worked temporarily, but the next day, the creaking was back. I don't hear it as much if the sunshade remains closed, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a panoramic roof.

I had that problem with pretty much every car that has a biggish runroof BTW, I never did anything about it, even if it sometime feels the roof is going to shatter :-)
From what I understand the rubber seal harden and contract, letting the glass closer to pieces of trim and support it usually stays clear of.

Very nice tip regarding the trim/foam tho...

***IMPORTANT: If you buy velcro, make sure to use the soft velcro sticker pieces that come in the package, if you use the hard side, it may create noise rather than dampen.

Sorry for the tardy reply. Please see attached photos. So my method was to "over engineer", aka I went a little overboard and placed velcro strips pretty much everywhere. But I am 99% sure the ones that made the difference were the long horizontal strips I placed across the length of the plastic divide as indicated by the red arrows... Sorry if it's not all that clear. It was a lot of trial and error, it took me almost a week of applying and then driving till I managed to get the soft velcro in the right place.

I'm sure you are also wondering if the velcro interferes with the operation of the sunroof, I am happy to say it does not. The pieces are thin enough that everything is pretty much flush.

I have had my car in twice to have the sunroof fixed. On the first visit I left the car for one day and they "fixed" the problem. But they had tested it when the car was warm from being in the shop so in fact it was no better. For the second visit they kept the car for 3 days to test it during the cold mornings. Picked the car up and within 10 seconds I realized the creaking noises were still there and no better. Don't know what they are going to do now.

Sounds like something for which BMW engineers will have to develop a specific fix. I'm not looking forward to possibly experiencing this but I'm also not sure how prevalent it is.
