Trunk door not opening with keyless

Hello everyone,

I am the owner of a 2012 F25 2.0d Xdrive.

I am very happy with the car and it has served me very well over the past five years.

Lately it seems to have developed a problem with the boot/trunk door:

I have the keyless entry package and it used to be the case that a light press on the handle at the trunk door would open the door (I think my car was built too early for the foot underneath activation method). All of a sudden pressing the handle has stopped working and in order to open the trunk i need to press the button on the key fob or the button inside the car. When i do that the trunk door opens without issue.

The buttons on inside of the trunk door (close and lock) respond with no issue.

Has anybody else dealt with this issue? Could it be a fuse or something like that? Its not the end of the world, but it is a bit frustrating needing to always reach for the keys to open the trunk...

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Iam

On mine a key fob does need to be close to the tailgate for this to work, even if it is in my golf bag ~3ft away that can prevent the tailgate from reacting.

I suppose the battery in the fob probably needs to be in good condition.

There are also customized settings for the keys in iDrive. They sometimes seem change themselves without warning.

Good Luck let us know if you find the solution.

The button on the outside of the hatch has broken and failed. I dealt with this on my car as well. When you remove it you will see it is made of a rubberized substance and the rubber has torn causing the button to longer make contact with the switch. Replace the exterior trunk release button and you will be good to go.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I tried a fob with a new battery but no joy.

So I guess I will have to change the handle. Any ideas where to get one barbera? Or will I have to go in to the dealership?

Thanks once again!

Bumping this as our 2013 has the same issue. Definitely the exterior rubber trunk handle.
