Black Car with Black Wheels Or Silver

So I am in the process of putting together my winter setup. I have a Carbon Black X3 and have never owned black wheels.

Since these are part of winter setup I figure I can go too wrong...

I am wondering if this is the time and would like opinions!

Black on Black or Black with Silver. What would you prefer?

Go for black...imo better if the entire rim was black as well. Post your set-up once you have it figured out. I am currently headed in the same direction but with DSB and black 18's.

It's a "toss-up" (both look very good) but the all-blacks might look better once they get caked with snow and slush. Also, they'll look better than the silver ones when covered with the infamous BMW black brake dust, which presumably you won't be cleaning once a week in the winter, as most of us must do in the warmer weather

Silver - after all you're driving a truck not a sports car.

black, without any doubt -- agree with other commenter -- better if rims were black as well.

I vote for silver. Silver will highlight the accents on the car well.

Edit: It will really help if you have SAP. It would look SICK with silver.

I prefer silver for Summer, but black for Winter.

Nice to see that there is a such a strong consensus among the forum members.

Since you're undecided, as is apparent from your post, you are in that rare situation of possibly racking up some brownie points with your spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend or significant other. Just let her/him decide and tell her/him that you have such faith and trust in her/his judgment that it's entirely in her/his hands.

It's a win/win situation: The decision is off your back, you get some points and if the look really sucks, you can blame it on the other person.

I prefer Black on Black and I assume your summer wheel set is in silver.

I vote for silver. It contrasts & accents the black body nicely.

Either:
- all black on the car, no chrome at all
or
- silver wheels with silver accents.

Black or partly black wheels with silver accents is a compromise. You need to make you mind up on the two options I've given! (IMO)

You have to delete xline if you're going for the black/black option IMO. See this one for example

Very Nice Pics....

Here is one of mine... Very Black. Tinted front passenger windows to the legal 30% as well.

I have decided to go with the black on black. I figure being so evenly split half the year with black and half with silver I wont go wrong....

Thanks for all the input!

Before picking up a set of OEM BMW silver wheels for my X5 winter set, I was also leaning toward a black set. I'm not really a fan of black wheels in most cases, but was thinking of the benefits that Lotus stated, particularly with infrequent cleaning in winter. But, a friend has black wheels and he said that they are a major bitch to clean (even in nice weather), and that they scratch and show the scratches more.

I sort of think of it like this: your body experiences pain so that you will give attention to the portion of the body that may be injured or malfunctioning. Likewise, your car experiences "ickyness" so that you can clean the parts that are contaminated and can eventually result in permanent damage to the finish - be it a wheel or a body panel. If you were to go all winter without cleaning black wheels because you don't see the grime so much - there is a good chance that you will never get them clean, ever. Just be prepared to be okay with that.

Black makes the car look tougher, if you're younger it's probably better.

Silver is a bit more refined, if you're over 40 definitely go for silver.

Ha..well I am over 40...but thats the new 30! So Black it is.

As for cleaning...during winter here there is no such thing as clean so I have very low expectations.

Setup should be here on friday will get some pics up. Not on car but should give you an idea if you are considering....
