Rearview Camera all greyed out

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone else can help me here - bought new X3 in April - it now seems that the Rear-view camera is greyed out - when reversing, it's not coming on anymore - there seems to be no way to activate this.

1) What is the standard warranty terms of BMW ?

2) Have any of you guys had issues with this (camera) - i've read a few horror reports on here mentioning that it's cabling issues - meaning the monkeys at service pulling apart your car ??

3) Just called my dealership - who advised me that i'd have to pay a £70 diagnostics charge for them to look at the problem?? Surely should be covered by warranty ?

4) I can't seem to find a way to hard reset idrive to make sure it's not a software issue - any tips ?

Thanks in advance!

Calvin

If it was brand new in April, then it is under warranty. Go back to the dealer and put your case very very strongly. If it was an AUC car (new to you in April), then the same applies.

Before you headed back to the dealership, make sure to check: 1) hatch door definitely closed or is something preventing it from being completely closed? (if not completely closed, you'll get that grey screen), and 2) is anything blocking the rear camera?

Just restart the Idrive. Hold the volume button down till the screen turns blank and release the button. Idive should startup and it should work.

Come on! I would expect anyone taking the trouble to ask this question on a forum to have already checked out this obvious scenario.

No Rear Camera

Sounds stupid, but make sure it isn't covered in dirt. Mine was and at first I wondered the same thing.

Yes you are correct - its not as silly a suggestion as its sounds. Its been one of the very minor complaints about my F25 X3 just how easy the back of the car - including the rear view camera - gets covered in dirt when driving on unsealed roads compared with other cars I've owned in the past (the X3 is our first BMW).
