X3 pulled a 13.8 in the 1/4 on a humid night. Check time slip below. Thanks for watching.

Now to answer your question, the X3 blows that M45 out of the water. It's more ferocious, higher revving, and faster. (and more nimble with DHP) Keep in mind that the M45 weighs just a tick under 4100 lbs, where as the X3 35i weighs just a tick over 4200 lbs. The X3 on paper should be the same speed or slower than the M45. But we ALL know the 35i engine produces 320hp and 330 lbs of trq, not 300/300.... Testing puts the M45 0-60 at 5.7 sec where the X3 is 5.5...... Hope this helps you stick with the turbos and don't fall victim to the NA V8 |

Coming from an Infiniti M35 to 535i then X3 35i, and also driven V6 Accord, I missed the sharp and linear throttle response from the NA engines. Turbo engines always felt a bit "lumpy" to me, but like you said, the outright performance is just astonishing. I am trying to find something that's best of both worlds, but so far I don't see many choices. BTW, don't regret your decision on the M45. The 535i I had did not have sport package, so it handled quite dull, rode like a brick (first gen run-flat...dare you add the sport suspension to that? ) and quite a bit smaller inside than the M35. Its only redeeming factors for me were the engine and the quietness. |
