The time has almost come (within the next month or two) for me to get new tires. I have the OEM 245/45R19 102V Goodyear Eagle LS2 Run Flats on my 35i M sport now and while I don't hate them I'm not a big fan of there handling in anything other than dry pavement. The grip is awful in rain and especially snow. That being said I do like the stiffness of the tires and the steering response and feel of them. It's too much trouble for me to switch between summers and winters right now, although I eventually want to get 2 sets. For this next set at least I want to stick with all season run flats. It doesn't look like there are too many options for me other than the Goodyears... Has anyone tried a different a/s run flat and liked them better than the Gy's? Handling and response is top priority

Not all may be available in the USA

Michelin Primacy MXM4 ZP is probably a better tire than the Pirelli, the good year eagle LS being the worst of three.

We replaced the Goodyear RFTs with Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position RFT about 5000 miles ago. They are a great tire and I think the best replacement for the GY's. The Bridgestone tires are the only Ultra High Performance All Season tire in RFT that I could find. All the other tires that are listed above are classified as grand touring or standard touring. Not sure i can quantify the diffs but I do know the Bridgestones have excellent turn in and are relatively stable taking corners at speed. They are also pretty decent in the snow. Had the worst winter in years here in Ohio and these tires did just fine in all types of winter weather conditions.

I had Bridgestone on mine and got 39000 miles on them. Went with the Michlens primacey and I like them alot. Run quite and smoothe. Handling is good. But I am not a race car type driver.

I cant compare amongst them but had a good experience with Pirelli Cinturato s. However I did eventually change them out for winter Michelin Latitude s and then got a summer set with Bridgestone S-04 Pole Positions.

I've ordered a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position RFT to replace the Continental SportContact 3 SSR. Having them mounted next Saturday, biggest factor is the $225 per tire vs $331. The Contis have been a great tire, but 3/32 and 22,000 miles blows big time.

I dislike the eagles also, ugh what a shame the tire they pick for this wonderful car. They are so stupid sometimes. I'm increasing my tire width to 255 all around, might get a slight variance with the speedo, but I can live without it. I'm getting the Hankook Ventus S1 noble2 or the Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season, have not decided yet. No run Flat..I have AAA and allstate and BMW service. If I get a flat, too bad, because the drive will be 101% worth it

Nice, let us know how you like the tires. My wife daily drives the X3 so I don't get as much driving time on these tires but I will say that felt equal or better than the GYs in all areas so no complaints here.

FWIW, just replaced my Pirelli summers (after 25k miles) with Primacy 3 RFTs and the difference is amazing. Much smoother & less inclination to tramline. Quieter too.

200 mile Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position RFT update.

The Contis were like a railcar wheel on some very rutted roads, the Stones are far more forgiving. the trammeling I experienced with the Contis has all but disappeared. the Bridgestone's tread width is 1.5" wider giving a bit more road contact also the tires weigh in 2 lbs lighter per tire than the Continentals.

The only ding, and very slight ding, is the feel of the different road surfaces. on smooth new roads it is very nice driving experience, however on older roads with pebble or rock top I feel something akin to a slight vibration that I did not feel with the Contis.

I am going in for my last "free" service in the next few weeks and I am going to have the alignment checked as the Firestone dealer could not check BMW's.

I feel I got a great deal on this set of tires, I was out the door only $940 lighter in my wallet. I did not opt for the road hazard which would have added $23 per tire. I did however have them replace the o-ring seals for the TPMS at the rim for $7 a tire.


I don't expect to get 40,000 miles out of these tires, but I sure hope to get more than 18 to 20k the Contis gave me.

If you are looking for a snow biased all season the Nokian WRG3's have a pretty good reputation. They come with 55k mile warranty for all year driving and still have the snowflake symbol.
