Canadian X3 owners - TPMS question

This question is for the Canadian owners out there, I was curious if you can tell me if the TPMS on your X3 is the direct measurement type that requires sensors in each of the wheels or if it is the other type that does not require the sensors (believe the ABS wheel speed sensors are used)?

I heard before that US ones used the direct type but that Canadian ones used the indirect type.

From my understanding all Canadian BMW uses ABS sensors, there is no TPMS on the wheel.

+1
Getting a decicated set of wheels/tires is cheaper because there is no need of this sensor. I don't know if there is a down side in using the ABS sensor. Or maybe just another government regulation that is not needed.

awesome! My 323i uses the ABS sensors for TPMS and I think its fine and I prefer avoiding the extra expense and pain-in-the-ass associate with the wheel-mounted sensors.

I assume you are planning to purchase an X3? Have you talked to the local dealers? By the way I'm in Calgary as well. If you go to BMW Gallery let me know I got a really good price from them.

Yeah, I've been thinking about it pretty seriously. I've been trying to decide if I should just jump on a 35i or wait for the 30d that looks like we will get at some point.

The 35i is pretty darn good I average 11.9L/100kms on city driving only. The diesel would be a gem of a motor. Either way X3 as a package is a great choice. Only thing I strongly recommend getting is the dynamic handling package. Transforms the X3 into a 335, well worth the money. Good luck with your purchase. Oh and keep us posted on your decision.

Agreed. I drove the X3 35i a while ago and liked it very much.

I am quite familiar with the modern diesel engines from travelling to Europe a fair bit and from test driving the VW Touareg TDI a couple of times. I love the 35i, but I have it stuck in my head that I would enjoy the 30d very much too and I would feel so good about it when it came to fuelling up. The Euro-cycle city mileage rating on the 30d is 6.8 liters/100km which is incredible. I'd imagine it will be a bit optimistic for our conditions, but still.

Now I just need some sort of details as to when the 30d will be available. Hopefully soon because I will otherwise have to break down and just go for the wild 35i.

Thanks for your input and I'll let you know if I can use a hand with making a deal
