Real world mileage

What are actual mileage per tank that owners of the 35i are getting? For comparison my 09 335 (N54 motor) gets 500 kms per tank for strictly city driving. Should I expect about the same?

I am in Calgary and drive on Deerfoot and around town. ~ 25 mpg when light footed. Can get to 700km but I usually fill after 600km.

I'm from Calgary as well.
Really? That's pretty good considering the size and the displacement. Would you say your commute is 50:50 city and highway?

Another question I have: Does the X3 have start stop?

Canadian X3's don't have start/stop. I would assume it will come in the future but it will only be put in use 8 months out of the year. Vehicle doesn't auto stop if its <3 degrees celsius.

When I get in car it's set to vent. I change it to windshield. Next time I get in car it's back to vent. I am in the north so it would be nice to default to defrost. I could be the profile. It's not related to the memory seats settings.

Do you have Tech Pkg? You should be able to save it under the profile settings with the X3. Profile settings are not only just for seat memory, they adjust everything from seat to memory buttons on your stereo.

My 35D X3 M Sport is giving 41MPG on runs, it has covered 1200 miles now and has improved, I get 35+ around town, this is IMO great.

I get 16-17 Miles Per Gallon. Probably 75% city 25% highway. With 1 other passenger or solo. None - light load with a snowboard carrier on top.

Lotus, your gas at about $3.8o per gal is about the same, in fuel cost terms, as our diesels: If I convert your gallon price to UK £ then add 20% for the diff in US gallon to UK gallon then, double your MPG (and therefore gallon price) to get roughly the same as a diesel then you have no difference in the price!!! a lot of fuss about nothing, unless of course you prefer the power delivery/torque of diesels over gas engines?

Just wait till we get the high-performance M version, cup-holder package and you don't! You'll be sorry!

Why can't we get diesel in Canada? I'd take a 35D over 35i any day. Just that pictures says it all.

Is that US MPG or UK MPG?

Canadian spec shows US MPG

True, and very valid. Cost is the real factor, but of course at the current US price per gal. of diesel fuel, a 35d in the US would cost about half as much (as a 35i) to cover the same distance (not considering tire wear, depreciation, etc., etc., etc.).

Also, there is the purely psychological elitism factor of being to say "my 2-ton SUV gives better mpg than your Civic" and being able to quote those outstanding mpg figures.

Re: power delivery/torque: I personally feel it's a matter of taste. I generally prefer a high-torque, lower revving engine in a heavy SUV chassis and smaller displacement, high-revving engines in lighter sports cars. However the (low boost) N55 does have reasonably high torque (400 Nm) and a extremely wide usable rev range of 1500 to 7000 rpm which is amazing. For acceleration performance the 8 speeds of the ZF transmission are probably "overkill", but the 8-speed does allow the petrol engines to deliver the maximum efficiency in regular driving.

Not only more salt, but gourmet, flavored sea salt!

The only way a 35i would get that kind of mileage is if you shut off the engine while it was coasting down a long, steep hill.

Yes - thought about that when I checked your gas price and realized your diesel fuel is not much different. If you could get access to diesel engines more easily it would be a no brainer.

Although, for the EU the UK has relatively low purchase price for the vehicles we have the highest fuel taxes and for some rip of reason diesel is priced higher than gas....

Agreed we here in the UK are being ripped off big time by this government, 140.9P per Litre here thats Diesel.

Made a 100m journey today, 98% highway with traffic that was steady but prevented any foot down fun and recorded the stats below:
