X3 vs 335xi Sedan, fully loaded, prices compared

just thought this was interesting, US Pricing:

loaded 335xi Sedan: $57,000
X3 35i with same options: $55,340

Now that is assuming the M Sport package will be $2,000 more than the Sport Activity package in the X3, but that is similar to the upgrade price in the 335xi, so lets say it will be.

Interesting other points:
-335xi premium sound has only 10-13 speakers and 420 watts, X3 premium sound has 16 speakers and 600 watts.
-X3 has power tailgate in this configuration
-X3 also has panoramic moonroof
-X3 also has rear view camera

even if you add either the HUD or DHP, the price will still come in just under a 335xi sedan (which doesn't have those two options).

so, same engine, same interior (or nicer) but much larger vehicle, and its cheaper than the 335xi?

Why doesn't BMW just build more plants in the US and build the 3 series, and 1 series here? Could save us all a few thousand dollars. Of course Ms will still have a huge premium and I would want them built in Germany

There are plenty of Ms built in the US. Currently the X5M and X6M, previously the Z4M and Z3M.

It would help if you knew what you were talking about.

I noticed the price advantage too…If it would bring the cost of the 3 series down, I'm all for a US plant (I thought they were still considering doing this).

I could have sworn my Z4M Coupe was made in Germany and the same with my 2000 Z3 M Convertible, maybe I was wrong?

Yeah the 335xi pricing is ridiculous, especially when you consider it's only a entry level sedan. For $57000 you could get a fully loaded A6 or well equipped E350. While the 3 series is a great car price wise it's in line with the 5 series' competitors when it should be with cars like the C350 or A4.

The price maybe ridiculous, but BMW is selling bags of these. If the market is willing to pay, why bother dropping the price to match competition? Because we want them to? The market would say otherwise.

+1

And there's a huge difference in the drive between those cars (335i, A6, E350). For those who enjoy the more nimble handling of the 3, the price is worth it. I love my X3, but I long for a twisty mountain road and my 330i just thinking about it (or better, a 335i). That reminds me -- I haven't hit a mountain road with the X3 yet. Must do that and see!
