It's all really a shame. Lotus and I joined around the same time and took delivery around the same time. Among the first to receive our X3's, we experienced and troubleshooted a lot of our initial problems/concerns as a joint effort back in early 2011. I couldn't say how many times I avoided the dealer/panic because of his posts.

Until he returns, I will do my best to share as much information as I can that I learned from him.

As a person who bought an x3 after reading Lotus' many posts (& the Coast flashlight for the glovebox), I wish him well and hope he eventually reconsiders.

+1 to everybody that gave Lotus7 kudos.

He provided tremendous knowledge and value to everybody that purchased the new BMW model known as the F25 in 2011. My glove box flashlight is a standing testament, as I had no clue about the reason for the slot on the glovebox cover till I read his posting.

There were many other postings, as well, that provided more insight into the complex workings of F25 than I have seen from the BMW dealerships.

I am sorry to hear that some asshole pissed him off and drove him away.

It's amusing to me -- I mean in a very good way -- that with all the technical details Lotus7 provided (like the parking brake/transmission stuff that's come back up in a recent post) a hallmark item some many of us took on and enjoy was that Coast flashlight.

Mine was even simpler - My previous BMW 328 convertible came with a little silver flashlight. I salvaged it when I turned in the convertible, and then found out (via Lotus7) that it fit perfectly in the slot on the F25 glove box door. Later on, I learned that the convertible had one of these slots, as well.

File this under the many things BMW neglects to tell you.

You are correct, the flashlight was just the top of the technical details iceberg.

I'm sure he regrets deleting the posts now and the majority are still in place so no real damage done.

I'm also sure he'd be welcomed back by most people if he ever decided to contribute again
You're gonna have to come up with a more modern analogy for the younger forum members

Sad to see lotus leave
We argued once about tire pressures I think
But the dude was very knowledgable
I argue with a lot of people on the forums
But I really dislike that one member posted something so insulting that another member decides to leave the entire forum
Shame

Since BMW doesn't seem to think these website concerns of ours are significant enough ask one of their technical/engineering officials to participate here (or elsewhere, for that matter) we need more participants like Lotus 7 and fewer "bullshit artists."

Our friend Lotus7 has moved on... can't we let this issue go?

Lotus went out of his way to deleted his previous posts so his discontentment with this forum obviously went deeper than a dispute with one individual.

He "flipped the bird" to the whole forum.

I don't agree with him deleting posts but I think it was a spur of the moment thing that he probably regrets and there are still 100s left. He didn't delete them all. Time to move on anyway....

I agree. As helpful as he was, deleting posts was the behavior of a petulant child.
His input was valuable, but not irreplaceable.
Others among us will be able to step up and fill the void.
Let this die. He ain't coming back.

My theory is we keep coming back to this thread to see if our superhero has returned.
Our hopes get raised that he might respond to the pages of tributes and requests.
Then our spirits sink as we see it is just another lament or encouragement to move on.

I like to think he is lurking on the forum under a new psuedonym, watching over his friends and fighting the temptation to post a message revealing his new identity.

Our best hope is not to continue this lament, but to start posting technical questions again. Eventually, if he is watching, the temptation to share his knowledge with us will get too much. He will emerge from the dark and we will once more see him running free in his natural habitat.

Ode to Lotus7:

There once was a guy named lotus7;
His posts were often quite splendid;
'Til one day, he got real offended;
He picked up his marbles;
Deleted some posts;
And chose never again to hit send it;

Some folks were aghast;
One year has past;
We be still in the lurch;
As all we can do is hit search.

@Lotus7: If you still check in every now and again from the Mountains of Illinois, thanks for the memories
