Front disc pads

My front disk pads on my 2016 X3 will need to be replaced this year (56,000km). BMW Dealer quotes $AUS980. This is about 3x what I was expecting (is that why it’s called an X3 🤣?).
Are the X3 disc pads THAT special to be so expensive?
Is there a much more reasonably priced after market pad I should look for?

For reference- parts only , in the States (US$) look here https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/X3...;d=3584&v=

(The above are pads for 35I model car...gasoline I-6 motor w/turbo)

Other manufacturers that make basically a pad similar to the stock BMW product:

- Jurid
- Textar....this is the manufacturer of the Genuine BMW pads.
- Pagid may have an offering also.

I've had great luck with Akebono Euro ceramic pads on my X3. Long lasting and low dusting.

Are you sure they are not including new rotors in that price?
In the US, most dealers won't do pads only, they insist on doing rotors at the same time. A brake job at the dealer is usually well above $1k USD per axle.

Whatever you do don't buy ebc yellow stuff pads. For whatever reason the bedding in process is ridiculous and new discs makes it worse.

Yes, sounds like rotors are included to me. I know I had to replace oem rotors when I bought my X3 used at 75k miles as they were too thin to pass inspection.

Thanks all for your replies. I recently started working for a very large Toyota/Lexus dealer in Nth Qld. I’ll get new mate head mechanic to check out the pads and get his opinion. He did say that BMW pads have impressive stopping power and spew brake dust everywhere. But he was also surprised by the quote price.

I realised i've got air in my lines so perhaps yellowstuff are good. I'll know once I've powerbled them.

Stock pads dust like crazy but they are unsurpassed for cold stopping power- this it desirable for a street driven daily driver.

Agreed yellowstuff are horrible street pads. Keep an eye on them, I've had the whole pad separate from the backing! No wear indication until metal on metal.

I also vote for Akebono, you can get them on Rock auto.com Just replace them yourself for a fraction of that price, if you know how. Good luck!

Got my new mates at Toyota to change the pads. Turns out the BMW dealer was looking at the wrong end of the car and it was the rear pads needed replacing. $AUS450 for pads and rotors (1hr labour). Happy with the price and service
