so yea that is a great point to see someone's sticker that includes both m-sport and DHP. Here is my fear for whispered... my fear is that the dealer input it into the system incorrectly and now they are trying to cover it up...I'm not a conspiracy theory person but it's my fear b/c I know of 2 other people on this board that have had that problem! Typically what happens is that the SA/CA will build the config for you, but the sales manager is supposed to input it into the system...and if for some reason that didn't happen here and the SA did it incorrectly (which is what happened to one person I know here) then they are going to be in a situation where they have to eat a car....so if they are not an upstanding dealer maybe they are putting up smoke and mirrors hoping it goes away
That's just the issue though...the Vehicle Inquiry Report is generated by the system, so anything listed on the VIR is IN THE SYSTEM. That configuration is what everyone sees we they look up info on the vehicle, including the production facility. So unless his CA or someone went in and changed the order after printing off that VIR, then the factory should have received an order for M-Sport and DHP. That's why this situation is so interesting.

sh*t good point... so net net what this kinda sorta maybe looks like is a manufacturing error...or a printing error (printing out of his window sticker) or something like that? And yea the "interesting" part is really that is probably doesn't happen that often hence the confusion here. TBD I guess..hopefully this works out for the better for whispered

So for some reason my car didn't get 223. I also did not get 2vl (VSS) as that is part of the ZDH package. Dealer is refunding me the difference. It's sad but I guess I can live without 223. Until the next BMW!

Good luck guys with your car!

If they order me another vehicle, I wonder what I should tell PenFed, the people that I am using to finance my car. Can they simply switch a VIN on my account? Probably not. *sigh*. I hope it won't be too hard to accommodate the issues I will be having if my vehicle did not come with the DHP that I ordered and results in BMW making another one for me.
My dealer messed up my order (which I discovered after taking ownership of the vehicle). They ended up re-ordering me another one and letting me keep the incorrect one as a loaner until the new one comes in. I also have my loan through PenFed and they can switch the VIN so your payments will apply to the second VIN you get. PM me if you have any questions. I've been through it all!

And btw, they submitted everything correctly. BMW just didn't build it right for unknown reasons.

My dealer wouldn't order me a new one. So it doesn't matter anymore. But thank you for letting me know.

wow..that's crazy... dude seriously you should lob a complaint over to BMWNA when you get your survey and say I'll be Audi woudl not do that... you'll get something for free!

Interesting on the VSS thing too...I'd like to know more about it's inclusion b/c stuff I read says its on the SAP too... maybe what's included on the SAP is just power steering assist (meaning it gets tighter) but the actual VSS is only DHP..maybe that's it?

Seriously though man...lob a complaint directly over to BMWNA and raise some hell. I'll ask the woman I know for some advice for you

That is BS. I would write a stern letter to BMWNA. Your vehicle was not built to order. If you wanted the money that the option costs instead of the option itself, I have a hunch you would just not have ticked that box.

You're taking it much better than I would. My response would simply have been "I'm sorry, but this is not my car. Please call me when mine arrives."

Sounds like you need to escalate this above your sales manager head. You ordered the car a specific way and it was not delivered that way. I would INSIST on a new order and have them put you into a loaner while it is being built. Post this on the BMWUSA FB board too. It draws attention to the problem and they will have a BMW USA customer rep contact you.

Thanks. I will post on FB and see if that can get BMWNA's attention. It's just so hard to reach them. I've tried just calling the customer care number multiple times but they always tell me the same thing: I have to talk to my sales advisor. I hope BMWNA can acknowledge this and get back to me. I would be super impressed if they actually reached out to me.

Here is a customer service reps email at BMWUSA: Megan@bmwusa.com
She is an active rep on the FB boards. Try starting with her and see where things go.

According to the BMW web site, DHP includes variable ratio steering. Maybe SAP can adjust other aspects of steering, outside of the ratio per se?

Mole, can you post the 8 questions you sent over to BMW. It would be nice to see what questions we're waiting for answers. Thanks.

Very interesting perspective, and it piques my curiosity even more.

I'm an engineer but not an automotive designer. Aside from wheels / tires and ratio of sprung to unsprung weight, the primary parameters in a suspension that I know of are geometry, spring rates, and damping. Haven't heard any mention of adjustable spring rates / air suspension, and I doubt they have changeable geometry.

Would be fascinating to discover they're able to make chassis changes on the fly.

Thanks
Bruce

Seems interesting that you've taken more interest in this topic that M Sport owners have. But I can tell you that when I select SPORT or SPORT+, the iDrive menu pops up the "configure sport mode" option and the choices are "Drivetrain and Chassis" or "Chassis". The image on the iDrive screen shows the suspension in highlighted color, indicating that these parts will be affected.

But I suppose all that is just a BMW conspiracy to fool us.
LEDZEP - wouldn't it be wise for perspective buyers to know what comes with what in the new X3? There's more incentive for new buyers to figure these out, than the ones who already own them - you already have the car, so technically the discussions here won't matter to you as much as to the folks who plan to buy.

Based on the BMW UK site, it's clear that M Sport includes variable sport steering (2VL). I know it's not listed in the U.S. spec, but this makes most sense for current M Sport owners to feel a difference in vehicle response. So what you see on the iDrive screen may indeed be controlling the steering response, however that's not controlling the shocks.

EDC: "Electronic Damper Control (EDC) reduces variations in wheel load, ensures tyres have excellent traction and counteracts bodyshell movement regardless of the weight your automobile may be carrying - and regardless of the state of the road's surface. EDC can even help shorten braking distances, meaning you enjoy outstanding comfort along with the best in BMW on-road safety.

Sensitive sensors constantly monitor all factors influencing the vehicle's behaviour and occupants’ comfort, including road conditions, load changes and vehicle speed. In a fraction of a second, the signals are analysed by the EDC microprocessor and orders are sent to the actuators on the shock absorbers, which, with the help of magnetic valves, are variably adjusted to provide optimal suspension.
Thanks to Electronic Damper Control, the tendency for the nose to dip when braking is practically eliminated. The influence of potholes and unevenness on the road surface is reduced to minimum. Whether you're behind the wheel or relaxing in the rear of the cabin, EDC delivers a remarkably smooth and comfortable ride."

By the way, I am a perspective buyer. I went to the BMW performance event and enjoyed the test drive with the fully optioned X3.
