You checked the obvious, gas cap. No change in gas purchases.
Safest is to tow properly ( flat bed or dolly for rear wheels, I prefer former). Dangerous to drive if the car sputters or stalls. If you drive call BMW and get their permission for authorization, and contact name. I think BMW weak point is the electronics, but then again there are so many. Check control message is stored? Once at dealership get the OBD printout ( from key fob reader) to show the check fault, it not displayed get a printout from the full diagnostic equipment, for your own records. Most likely minor nuisance as the car is so new but the potential cause is lengthy hence dealer will give clean bill of health. Do it before the Christmas closings, good luck. http://www.bimmershops.com/check-engine-light-bmw http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623835 per manual: Emissions ▷ The warning lamp lights up: Emissions are deteriorating. Have the vehicle checked as soon as possible. Canadian model: warning light indicates the engine symbol. ▷ The warning lamp flashes under certain circumstances: This indicates that there is excessive misfiring in the engine. Reduce the vehicle speed and have the system checked immediately; otherwise, serious engine misfiring within a brief period can seriously damage emission control components, in particular the catalytic converter. |
