Seat Belt Alarm Nightmare!!! Helppppp
I have had over 8 BMW's and currently have a 2011 135I M-sport, 2003 X5 and now we just traded in the wife's 2011 128I for a 2010 certified X3.
We have had the X3 for approximately 4 weeks. Since the first week my wife started driving it to work in the morning (Phoenix, Arizona) where outside temps are between 88-95 degrees. There are no seat belt alarms at this time of the day and time. However after the X3 is parked outside all day in the heat and sun, my wife leaves work at 5-PM with outside temps 108-117. Once she puts her seat belt on, the seat belt alarm continues to alarm for 5-10 minutes while she is driving it. There is nothing on any of the seats that might set off the front passengers seat belt failure alarm. My wife unlatches the seat belt and reattaches it and still the alarm continues to chime. We have had the X3 at the dealer for over a weak and they can't duplicate the problems we are having. I have heard the alarm going off while my wife calls me on the phone and I know she is not crazy, even thou I have not had it happen to me (I have only driven it 2 times). We picked it back up from the dealer two weeks ago and the car for the past two weeks continues to alarm. It is driving her crazy and me as well as I have to listen to her complain. Please any serious ideas other then a new wife. It has to deal with the hot temps from what I can tell and for some reason only for her unless the dealer just said they could not find the problem because they just could not duplicate it. THANKS GUYS and GALS

Trust your wife. i just bought a new 2011 X3 Saturday. Sunday it would not unlock and had to use key. Then alarm goes off and stops when you start the car. Then it blows hot air and shows windshield wiper failure. Then after shutting off car windshield wipers remain on for 10 min. WOW.. My first BMW. Drove it to BMW sales rep pushed a button and problems went away. Took it home same problem above 4 times. Took it to be repaired and they said they replaced the modular and all was well on Wednesday. Today is Thursday and I could not get in my car and same problems as above with same message. Kinda scarred I got a lemon and I'm taking it in tomorrow. The new car experience should not feel like this. I have been back twice and tomorrow will be 3 times. I can not lock my doors now. Any feedback would be appreciated. I'm curious if they even replaced anything because it was working when I dropped it off. Now I loved this X3 the 3 days i had it. This is my first BMW and I hope this problem goes away. IT ALWAYS GOES AWAY BY THE TIME I GET IT TO THE DEALER

My wife has a problem with the passenger seat, it is very sensitive to weight and just having her handbag on the seat will set it off, so she always drives around with the passengers seat belt fastened so she does not get the alarm. You may try fastening the passengers seat belt also, not sure if this is the problem but it worth a try.

thanks we have tried that at as well but it seems to be the driver seat and only when its hot, go figure. The weather should be cooling down here in AZ so we will see if it stops.

My wife had the same problem and once the diaper bag was out of the front seat it went away.
She now just does up the passenger seatbelt when in the car because the bag is always in that seat.

Intermittent passenger seat belt chime
I've got a 2005 X3 and the passenger seat belt will intermittently chime. I plug in the seat belt to shut it off. However what would happen in case of an accident, would it allow the airbag to deploy even thought there is no passenger?
Does anyone know the flowchart of event that makes the system chime (seat sensor in combination with seat belt switch?). I've not been on the forum long enough to get the service manual for that X3 and it's rather a cold period to be tinkering in the car, so it'll have to wait till spring. |
