2.0d economy

Averaging 39.1 Mostly stop start traffic, 50 mph roadworks and town driving.
Adaptive cruise control is used as much as possible. Sport mode used at certain roundabouts and junctions - Comfort mode used everywhere else.
Not quite up to the 50+ mpg but still impressive and all without actually trying.

Thanks for sharing, WT. Because of the number of variables which come into play to result in average values, though, it becomes difficult to translate such to individual situations. If we as a community could obtain even one set of performance curves for each engine type as outlined in the 'Horsepower and Speed' thread [ http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1004702 ], we can at least have a rough reference to which we can refer. I can produce summary performance graphs for each engine and then graphs per single variables (such as 'mpg vs engine' type) if such data is shared. Without a number of entries the data will understandably be biased, but it would be a start.

This would then allow a broader range of information use across the board it would seem. There may come a time when one is in a rural setting away from a fuel source with our tanks lowering when it might be helpful to hit each engine's 'sweet spot' for maximal mpg. I suspect it would be in the 45-50mph range, but other than what I posted for our X3 35i 2012 and 2015 vehicles, I haven't seen anything else online to support such for the other engine configurations.

Is this the new B47 engine? And I assume the economy quoted is miles per imperial gallon? The 39.1 miles/IMPG would translate into 32.6 miles/USG and 7.2 l/100km. Not bad for the conditions you described for a new engine and can only get better.

Yes, B47 and good old I'm perial gallons - it's better than I was expecting. I've got a long run coming up so I'll see what that brings. I hope a potential buyer finds this useful.

With my new and presumably tight engine I got 39mpg over 600 miles this week. Mostly motorway at a little over 70. Thing is it's not a 20D.....

If I cruise control at 50mph through the motorway roadworks I can get some impressive MPG from the 3.0d X3. BUT I didn't buy the car for economy, but performance. It's a heavy'ish 4 wheel drive car, and no matter which way you cut you can't expect the mpg you get from a 1.0 tiny run about.
Also check your tyre pressures, it can make a big difference to the mpg.

I'll soon know how bad economy gets. My break in mileage is over now.

I am only averaging 27mpg mostly driving in stop start traffic, Done only 300 miles though. Same journey on my Mercedes (petrol) averaged 19mpg, A6 averaged about 30mpg. My dealer tells me I should get 40 after 1k mikes or so...

Took it for a drive on motorway and averaged 45mpg.
Noticed the service required number has dropped by 3k miles. Is this due to lots of stop start? I do switch off some times.

I don't think it'll drift too far, unless you keep in in sport.

I've just done 4 hours averaging 56mph and got 42mpg with 4 passengers a boot load. I'm happy with these figures, I was expecting the X3 to return about 36ish, so I'm up from where I expected to be.

Oh yes...it'll be in Sport regularly with the shifter in Sport too. When winter's out of the way I'll be using Sport+ with its reduced TC.

13k miles on and 42.8 mpg

I have had my 2.0D LCI Auto for 7 months now and 13k miles.
Overall mpg from scratch is 42.8 - that's imperial gallons.
Comfort on side roads, Eco+ on motorways, Sport when I feel like it. Motorway cruising at 70-80 mph. Plenty of traffic hold ups and speed restictions. Not specially careful with ecomomy.

My sweet spot seems to be about 60-65 mph on a smooth motorway with no interuptions, when it will easily do 50+ mpg.

I am happy enough with this.

Thats good .. Overall my X1 is averaging 37.8 over 40k miles

The gentle cruise to/from work will get me about 41/42

Long motorway runs max about 47

So X3 is definitely better from your figures

Yes the sweet spot is around 65mph .... but can only hold that if I use cruise control ... at 77mph I get 42mpg..

Our best ever was a 11 hour drive from Austria to UK we managed 70mph average with 40.1mpg!

Well pleased with both the performance and the economy of the X3 2.0d

Just driven my Jan 13 20d xdrive back from Bsingstoke to Norwich, so 160 miles and with some pretty heavy stop start traffic on the M25 and then sitting at 85 for the majority of the journey it was showing 49.1mpg on my return.

Better than that though was it was still showing over 600 miles range, and the needle had only just moved off full, now obviously that will drop like a stone with a couple of cold starts and short runs, but my Merc ML would be showing half a tank, and that can take 82 litres when it is filled from empty.

Strangely the fastest section was the single Carriageway from the West Coast down to Perth. Long Straight Roads and no traffic early on a Saturday. Once we were on the M74/M6 we kept to 75 - 80 . Obviously very lucky with the traffic the whole way, even M6 to M5 was moving at a good speed.
7k I've clocked up in 6 months

Amateurs ... over 50mpg is possible. Of course I cheated - it was a run from Leeds to Slough which is downhill all the way (arf arf)
