Question about sunroof/moonroof drain hole blocking issue

The sunroof itself isn't leaking at all and the headliner is bone dry but the common consensus is that the drain holes are clogged up. What is the connection? If the water is collecting in the gutter around the sunroof track then how is it dripping onto the carpet below the glove box?
