has anyone received a software update to fix the hesitation gas pedal "tip-in" issue?

I have to take my car in for something minor in the next week or so and am curious if BMW received the software update that was "scheduled" for Sept '11?

It is there for sure. Noticed it on the 2 tested x3 and my own. 28i and 35i.

It's one of my big gripes with the car.

In 6K miles of driving a X3, my "software" has already been "updated". That's my cerebellar motor cortex I'm talking about. I've learned to just press the throttle pedal a little harder when I want to start moving faster. Works every time, and didn't even take a trip back to the BMW dealership!

thanks for all of the input outside of the topic. I was curious specifically about the alleged september '11 software/firmware update.

just looking for a yea, if it exists!

on a side note, it's worst case on my rig when I do a rolling "California" stop sign stop!

The alleged september 2011 software update had absolutely nothing to do with the tip-in issue. I wonder who told you that. It only had to do with the RPMs jumping on startup. BMW has yet to release that software update.

From his question, it sounded like he didn't hear about it one way or the other...

I read it somewhere on one of the message boards....I think. Anyway, I knew a software update was coming and was curious if anyone had it applied and what, if anything, it fixed.

Well, the software update is supposed to fix the RPM jumping on startup issue, and nothing more than that. When I hear more about it, I'll keep you posted.

yea....right. only that. a software developer never fixes other bugs under the radar.

The implication was that if an update were to solve both issues, both issues would have been reported as "to be fixed." Seeing as there is no mention of the throttle tip in issue (yet), I see no reason to believe this software update will remedy it.

In the first 500 miles I haven't noticed any problem on our 2012 X3 28i; but then I never drove any 2011's enough to really make a good comparison. I tend to drive in Sport mode a lot, which, of course, results in a somewhat faster accelerator "tip-in" than the normal Drive mode; but it still seems about right to me.

Well, I believe that the fix is finally here. About 6 months ago, they told me that the throtle delay/tip-in issue was normal but as of today the service dept response was:
" Vehicle was test driven and verified slight delay in acceleration. Per SI B24 02 12 performed vehicle test, no faults found, check programming level. Had to perform complete programming/encode and cleared all memory fault. Performed an electronic steering wheel calibration.

I also had a slight steering issue where the car had a slight right turn bias, no pulling, but the steering force to turn right was slightly less than the force to turn left. The steering was just not balanced which was anoying for what is supposed to be such a good handling "SAV". This didn't appear to be related to tire pressure, alignment, tire rotation, etc. It appears that this issue was corrected by the software update also.

I have only driven 20 miles or so after picking up the car, and am still getting used to the new throttle setting plus it's in learning mode again, but I am very excited and think they have fixed the throtle delay/tip-in issue.

FYI I also complained about the throttle delay and they addressed the issue by resetting the ECU, among other things. However, the car went into 'learning mode' and within a month, the delay was back again. Took it back in to have it fixed and they did the same thing. Again, within a month, the delay was back.

This was about 7 weeks ago.
