how to keep idrive screen off when starting the car?

is this possible? i dont have Nav so really have no use for this. I turn off the screen immediately when i start the car, but the next time i turn it off/back on, it goes to the idrive warning screen.

i'd just like it to respect my choice of keeping the screen off, and stay off indefinately until i decide I want to use it.

I don't think there's any way to turn off iDrive and keep it off the next time you start the car since there doesn't seem to be any option in the menus. It's not surprising that there's no option considering the X3 doesn't even save sport & sport+ modes and makes you select them every time you turn on the car. It's funny that they do save heated seat settings, the X3 assumes your ass will be cold the next time you get in and start your car but doesn't think that you'll like to drive in anything but normal mode or leave the iDrive off.

I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that the screen conveys messages for malfunctions, and also for PDC.

It's not a big deal IMO. Personally, I would rather it be on.

You can actually. Move the control all the way to the right then select "turn off control display.

thats just to turn it off each time after you start the car, correct?

Thats what i do but next time i turn the car off/back on, the screen comes back and does not remember my "turn off" selection previously.
