2008 X3 Battery

Hi All,

My fiance has a 2008 X3 and the battery is dying. On my X5 I have to have the battery programmed at the dealership. Is this the case with her X3 as well or can I just swap it myself without causing a light on the dash?

Thanks for the info.

Regards,

From the Bentley Manual
  • Disconnect Negative Cable First
  • Disconnect Positive Cable
  • Disconnect battery vent hose at side of battery
  • Remove hold down bolt at front of battery and lift battery out of cargo compartment
  • Clean away corrosion in and around the battery tray and on cable ends
  • When reinstalling battery, reconnect negative cable last

A new battery needs to be registered with the '08 X3 as I just replaced mine last year.

I buy my own battery, install it, then take it to an independent shop to register the battery. They should only charge you about 30 minutes in labor.

I had to have the dealer program my new battery as well. There is probably a procedure but I could not find it.

I did not program mine and it has been in the car for over two years. I have read in a couple places it does not need it but in other places that it does. I am just going to run it until it goes out or I trade it back in. If you ask your SA I am sure they will say yes to get you in there to spend money.
