Thumbs up Xenon Headlights in 12' BMW x3

Hey all, I was just wondering if any of you had experience upgrading your lighting package to the xenon lights. I love the angel eyes and string LEDs but was told before installing angel eyes you need xenon lights. I am new to car mods so please explain in general terms Thanks so much!!

You need to buy a projector Xenon housing with the angel eye day time running lights, you will also need bulbs and ballasts, programming is also require.

Is this something you do after market? Would the dealer do this? How does it affect your warranty?

This is a must for me going from my '12 328 to the x3.

You can go aftermarket or OEM, not sure what is the availability for aftermarket Xenon and halo for the X3, I know they are available for the 3 and 5 series sedan. Unless you know how to code the X3, the dealer will have to do the programming to convert to Xenon and LED halo. Like most OEM upgrades, if you havent bought the car yet, its usually cheaper to buy the car with the option you want rather than try to upgrade later.

The X3 F25 Xenon angel eyes is one of the best I've seen compared to other BMW models. The two rings are well lit because each ring has it's own individual LED bulb & ballast.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a question. Do the angel eyes LEDs have a rated number of hours before they burn out?

I have not heard of a rating for operational hours of LEDs used by BMW. Modern LEDs will probably be in the tens of thousands of hours. Certainly much longer life than Tungsten filament bulbs.

What I am not sure of is whether the angel eyes on the BMW are LED. I have a feeling that there is a single light source and that the ring is a light guide.

After-market angel eyes are made using multiple LEDs.

A modern day high quality LED light source will last up to 100,000 hours.
