2004 X3 3.0 Front Differential Issue

With less than 70,000 miles my 2004 X3 3.0 blew the front seal on the differential and ruined the entire differential. It was like someone slamed the brakes on. $2,400 later for repairs plus rental car for 2 days BMW of North America said that it would do nothing given the Warranty on the car was up. I guess the Ultimate Driving Machine is not built all that well after all. This is my 3rd BMW and will be my last. BMW of North America Customer Service is not sympathetic to their owners after their Warranty is over. I should not expect this to happen on a car with less than 70K miles especially when it has been maintained to BMWs standards. Hyundai's are looking pretty good now with 10 year/100K miles warranties!

Put your post in the proper forum thread if you want a response to your rant.

This is for the new, yet-to-come X3M.

Can someone please help me identify the rear differential of my 2007 X3 with 93,000 miles? I went under the car and found the yellow tag and part number 33107567994 sticker on it. I think this has a final gear/drive ratio of 4.44. I want to know if I have an open/non-LSD or a LSD (Limited Slipped Differential) rear differential. I think my rear differential is starting to make a 'growling' noise during deceleration and I want to evacuate the fluid and refill it with factory fill. I found the rear differential fluid for 'Open/non-LSD' differentials with PN 33117695240 (about $37) but not sure if this is the correct fluid for it. I also found the synthetic BMW SAF-XO fluid with PN 07512293972 from a BMW motorcycle dealership at about $22.00. I just want to make sure I use the correct factory fill. Thank you!

2004 X3 3.0 Front Differential Issue

About 6 months ago, we started getting sharp, jarring stuttering under acceleration. At first, it was rare, but it progressed to being consistent by late fall. The issue only occurred under acceleration (torque applied), and was gone completely in high gear on the highway.

may be a transfer case I've seen a bunch of those cause similar issues. i would bring it to your local dealer it may be expensive but its worth it just to be sure of the diagnosis
