POTENZA RE960AS POLE POSITION RFT...not great reviews on Tire Rack
For those who have gone from the Goodyear LS2's to this tire, how has the transition been? I need tires and was all set to get these, But i started reading the reviews on Tire Rack and didn't get a warm, fuzzy feeling. The specs are good (compared to the LS2's which were bad). Since I have dedicated winter tires/wheels I'd like a higher performance tire than the LS2 without going out of the RFT category. Not many choices. Thanks.

We've put about 10k miles on them maybe closer to 15k and they are a solid tire. Better than the LS2 in my opinion. I think they are the best alternative if you want to stick with RFT.
I never drive our X3 but my wife has never griped about these tires. |

I have a set on my '11 35i purchased 5/14, and I have had zero issues in 16,000 miles.
rotated twice now and check tire pressures monthly. wear is very good and wet traction in the Florida rain is also very good. I do not have snow or ice conditions so no data. I read the 35i x3 reviews on tirerack and found them more warm and fuzzy than not. http://www.tirerack.com/survey/Surve...irePageLocQty= |

I believe the 960s are what I put on my `11 after the LS2. The LS2 I got 24k miles out of, could have gotten 3-5k more, but the snow was starting to fall and the outside edges were REALLY worn. The 960s I have about 20k miles on right now and they are wearing well and drive well. Much better snow traction than the LS2! I expect to get about 30k miles out of them, and I'd buy them again as they are an inexpensive RFT.

I have about 5-6K miles on my RE960s and so far have been impressed. For me, the biggest improvement came from the ride quality that the 3rd gen. RFT tech brings. After switching I no longer pine for non-RFT tires although I wish I could get the Conti ExtremeContact DWS in a runflat version. Thanks to the CA drought, haven't had a chance to really try them out in snow so can't comment on that.

We replaced OEM 245/50-18 Pirelli Cinturatos at 24K miles and 2-3/32" remaining with the Bridgestone Potenza 960AS RFT. The car is now at 57K miles with 5-6/32" remaining on the Bridgestones. Will buy the Bridgestones again, someday, but apparently not soon.

Well after digging deeper into the reviews on Tire Rack and hearing what you guys are saying I think I'm pretty sold on these tires. Maybe I just looked at the 3 star ratings and what people had to say. I figure they are probably not that great in the winter but for me that's a non-issue. They bill them as a high performance all-season instead of a grand touring. What I don't want is a tire that doesn't corner and grip well. I'm a fairly spirited driver and want a good handling tire. I'm hoping these fit the bill. It's hard to tell the driving characteristics of people who review the tires.

What you need to keep in mind is the designation of the tire. It's classified as an Ultra High Performance A/S tire. It is not going to yield the same slick/snow type performance of other normal all season tires. Rubber is a bit stiffer, less siping, etc... All in an effort ot make the 960 performance oriented.
I do think they are the best alternative to the LS2 if you want to stick with RFT. The handling and performance characteristics of the 960 really match up well the X3 as it's a sporty little SUV to begin with. |

Cool....that's why i was only looking at those tires. I already have dedicated snow's on wheels so wanted a more performance tire but still sticking with all season because sometimes i'll wait to put on my winter's a little longer.
thanks. |
