Lowered X4.

Ride height on X3 is typical for a SUV.

BMW choose to have the same ride height on X4 - which I don`t think is fit for a coupe.

Yesterday I had H&R springs installed- one size fits all. On my car it resulted in 40mm lowering in front and 20mm rear, which was what I was shooting for.

Springs: EURO 160 - ordered from Germany via the Net. Delivered by Bundespost to my house in three days- they own also Swedish Post.
Work: SEK 4.000 ($500) - non-BMW shop. They claimed 4.5 hours. Dealer asked SEK 7.500+ SEK 1500 wheel alignment.

I have not checked wheel alignment.

During a short trip, I could not feel any difference.

Looks are great!

Sorry - no pics - old mobile )

There are pics at a couple of tuners. H&R has a picture of a lowered X4. That car has equal ride height front-rear - not mine- with 6 cyl petrol (gas) engine.

I have some more experience:
-steering precision - driving straight ahead- improved, both comfort and sport.
-steer in - in a curve - improved, both comfort and sport.
-sensitive to sidewind: possibly some improvement.
-chassis comfort -degraded. Note: 20" and run flats.

If you are sensitive to chassis comfort, I don`t recommend lowering if 20" and RFT:s.

Looks are - still - great.

Thumbs down Pics or it didn't happen

You can afford an X4, but not a smartphone or camera?
bimmerfrk was being sarcastic, by the way.

Yocal. I suspected he was sarcastic
I can afford a new phone/camera - I just don`t want to.

As I said: pictures are available at a couple of tuners-although mine is slightly higher in rear.
I believe my evaluation of consequencies would be of more value- even without pictures.

35i, M, Carbon Black, 310M, black textile/leather interior, adjustable dampers.

How is your evaluation valid without pictures? Just post pictures as people really excited to see the finished product.

I don't get pointless teasers.

Pictures can be found on: H&R.de and a couple of tuners homepages.

Evaluation of performance is mine, and you can`t get an independent evaluation from suppliers.

Springs have now settled and ride height is now about 40 mm lower in front and 30 mm in rear.

Tjalle,

This is becoming a bit too cryptic for me. OK, you lowered your car, ok you don't want to post pictures.

So we should find more on H&R.de? www.h&r.de? Or you mean www.h-r.com/de/

So what is your message? At least I would expect a correct URL..... I give up, I don't find a picture of the lowered X4 ...

I am already putting too much effort in understanding this thread anyway....

this guy is obviously a troll whose playing some marketing gimmick trying to publicize those springs. This thread is worthless without pics and so is your supposed lowering.

I am glad there is interest in lowering X4- and obviously X3

H&R, has changed their homepage - no pics.

Very good pics at: AC Schnitzer.de - BMW - X4.

Ride height varies somewhat in those pics. Sideview has about 10 mm lower ride height than mine- and, probably, 21" wheels - very similar to mine 20" 310:s.

Suppliers of lowering kits: Eibach, H&R and Schnitzer.
They all claim about same level of lowering, and all have good reputation.

As I wrote in my evaluation, there are PRO:s and CON:s with lowering. I don`t think there is any difference between the suppliers.

Tjalle, no offense but your review means nothing without pictures to back it up. I am happy you lowered your car. I would love to lower mine too, but would like to see real world pictures of it and how it looks. not some company's website that can be "doctored" to look more impressive.

Sar.. , since you asked nicely, I will dig out my camera and take a picture, sometime next week.
I double checked ride height today in my cemented garage, and there is a 15 mm (2/3") difference between front and rear, which to my mind is OK. Front being lower.

And I believe you are right - the Schnitzer side view, has a perfect even ride height, which does not match the dynamic pictures.

Lowered X4

I dug out the old camera and took a couple of pictures.

Height to wheelhouse opening is 745mm front and 760 rear, in my garage, which is horisontal. Left and right. Down from 780 front and 790 STD.

1" is 25.4 mm.

Picture in front of garage has the 745/760. Half tank.

Picture in front of house - which is nicer - has 755/770 due to yard leaning ever so slightly towards the house.

Note: I believe I am riding slightly on the bumpstops - at least in front - which explains the noticeable harsher ride

Again: I feel I now have a coupe - not a coupe on stilts.

Nyalpine: Thanks, I am glad you liked it. Note: with a 4 cyl engine, you would probably end up with about 10 mm higher front- and less harshness

All people who has been pestering me for not suppling pictures, seem to have vanished!

I have not vanished. Saw the post late last night. Thank you for posting pictures. Your car looks great. I like that the gap is greatly reduced. Very nice indeed.

Sar...: you were not pestering me - on the contrary - you behaved and made me do the effort....

I am glad you liked the result, since I am also happy with it - although reduced ride comfort.

IF there will be a 40i, with tuned engine, they will ,probably, lower the car AND shorten the McPhferson dampers so it will have better comfort.
