Question for X3 28i owners who ordered the Sports Activity Package

The web site and the options brochure are pretty clear that the following feature is not part of the Sports Activity Package for the 28i, but it is for the 35i.
  • 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters

If you own a 28i and ordered the SAP, did you get this feature? The only reason that I ask is that the price of the SAP is the same for the 28i and 35i ($1700).

Thanks,

Cliff

With the X328i you get the auto transmission with the sport and manual mode but you DON'T get the paddle shifters, only the X335i gets the paddle shifters.
I had the shifters on my E90 LCI as
Much fun as they are I don't miss them now that I picked up my '12 X328i.
Good luck on your build!!!

My build is the following:

X328i
Jet Black
Chestnut Brown leather
Sport Actvity Package
Xenon
I would not have bought my X3 without the Sport activity Package

We have the 28i w/sap as well. Highly recommend due to sport seats and 18" wheel upgrade. No paddle shifters as noted above.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

If you don't have a button, how do you switch between the Normal and the Sport modes?

Also, if there's no button, how do you know that the Normal/Sport transmission option is a feature of the Sports Activity Package and not just standard on all X3s?

The shift handle is moved to the right and on the dash board display you will see DS(sport mode) plus the RPM's rise...the shift handle on the same position you move it up/down and you are now on MANUAL mode on the dash board you will see a # i.e. 4 that is the gear you are on..
This is the same as on the E90 less the shifter paddles..

Thanks, I just wanted to confirm that this is part of the SAP for the 28i since it isn't mentioned in the SAP list.

I meant to say that the Shift handle is moved to the LEFT to put the transmission on the SPORT/MANUAL mode...!!!

If you have time set up a test drive at your local BMW dealer...the sales brochure can't give you all the details since they are showing you both models X3 28i

Yeah, I plan to. I went to the SF Auto Show yesterday and two BMW salesmen were as confused as I was. They just looked for a button. Since it wasn't there, they concluded that that X3 did not have any capability to shift from normal to sport mode. They didn't check out the shift handle. Their conclusion was that if you want the capability of shifting from Normal to Sport mode you have to buy the SAP. I.e. the standard package doesn't have this capability.

They were also surprised that the SAP list didn't show that capability.

The sport mode transmission is standard on all X3- regardless of options!

if you get the sport package on the 3.5, you do get a small piece of leather surrounding the base of the shifter. This doesn't come with the 2.8 sport package.

I have SAP and DHP on my 2.8. Am pleased! I would have liked the leather shifter, though, but I didn't want the turbo.
