Weight Limit on X3

I'm really interested in purchasing a 35i X3 with m-sport but have a few questions.
I usually take 2-3 long trips during the year and wanted to know if it could comfortably fit 4 - 5 adults and 3 - 4 bags in the trunk. I was wondering if there is a weight limit, total weight of passengers and bags I estimate around 1000 - 1350 lbs. I know maybe 5 adults might be uncomfortable but I'm more interested to know if there is a weight I shouldn't exceed.

Carrying Capacity

Just got back from weekend ski trip with three adults and two 9 year old children. Had three large LL Bean duffels on the trunk floor with ski clothes and boots, two smaller duffles, day pack and some other stuff on top of that (limited visibility out back). Had Yakima Sky Box on roof that was quite full with skis, boards and food. All told, am thinking we were pretty close to the stated payload limit of 900 lbs total passengers plus gear (see the X3 technical specs page on the BMW website). Could probably taken on a bit more weight (maybe another hundred or so, but not as much as you are thinking), as didn't appear to be straining at all. From a comfort standpoint, no problem for 5 hours up in a snowstorm and 3 hours back, but not sure I'd want to do cross country.

Am not sure I would try 5 adults (middle person in back might be a bit cramped). Might want to consider a utility trailer if you want to go past the payload capacity for the car itself.

Thanks for the reply. Our total weight would be around 1250 the question is if exceeding the payload over 300 lbs is a bad idea or is the payload a conservative measure.

Not sure I'd go too heavy...i had loads of power, suspension wasn't bottomed. However think best to check with dealer unless someone else has thoughts...

How did you attach the skybox? Did you craft fittings to use the factory racks or Thule? Yakima doesn't make bracket for the gen 2 rails yet right?

No need to do anything special to attach the Skybox to the OEM racks. Worked fine. I did have major issue with the OEM clamping system and locking mechanism that I posted in the OEM vs Thule board --> http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showth...light=oem+rack. Ended up destroying the OEM rack trying to take it off.

Yakima still doesn't appear to offer a foot that clamps to the flush rails, so I ordered a Thule Aerobar from RackAttack, which seemed to offer best price for the overall system (I paid $382 for the ARB47 bars, 460R feet and 4023 fit kit).

Arrives tomorrow so will see how that goes...has to be better than the OEM.

I have the OEM racks on right now. They were a bit fiddly to get on and I haven't taken them off. I thought about the Thules but I have like 5 Yakima rack sets, ski and kayak carriers and the rocketbox. I keep hoping they will finally come out with a foot. It can't be that hard...
