Glovebox USB no longer working for map upgrades

Hey all,

Just purchased a 2015 map update. For some reason, the USB socket in the glove box appears to be dead. It won't read the USB stick. I tried a 1GB stick (blank). Seems like the 1GB can't be read either to save PROFILES.

Any ideas on what to do?

Is there a way to convert this USB (from Tishner) over to DVDs and load maps that way?

I am out of warranty, so I don't want to go to the dealer.

I've reset my CIC a few times (holding the power button for 25 seconds).

Thoughts?

Is it formated FAT? I had trouble with an NTFS drive.

yes, FAT32. This is the OEM BMW USB stick with the 2015 map upgrade.

Maybe just a bad USB stick.

USB memory devices typically do not use very high quality memory and, over the years, although certainly not an everyday occurence, I have had a number that just fail. I have even had a couple of supposedly better quality Corsair sticks fail over the past year or so.

interesting. OEM usb stick works on my Mac. OLD USB stick from last map upgrade is able to be seen if I "giggle" the stick in the connector in the car.

copied new map to the old stick and pulled off the upgrade.

I think I might need to get a new plug in the car, as it's definitely intermittent.

other USB sticks are not seen by the car (I tried 4, only the OLD USB MAP from 2013 seems to work).

Regardless, I am 99% confident it's the jack in the car.

It's replaceable from what I've read, there is a plug on the back side.

.....probably won't futz with it until the next map upgrade (on a 2 year cadence). This way, the cost of the USB jacks may go down (they are $50-70 bucks on eBay at the moment).

anyway, hope this helps someone, if you run into problems. Perhaps, I am the only one.

Oh, Tichner (getbmwparts) had the map for $108, including FSC code. Not sure if it's still on sale.

Mine just started doing the same thing. I even tried wiggling it and still not seeing the USB Drive. I have tried 3 different drives and no good on any of them.

I carried out the NBT Europe 2015-1 upgrade from the armrest USB socket and it worked fine. Took 50 minutes to complete.

I do not have a USB socket in the Glove box of my September 2013 build X3 xDrive30d MSport. Different specification for UK build at the time?
