The trouble with the M-Mobility kit (I also had with my '03 M5) is that it expires after some time (2-4 yr?) and needs to be replaced, even if not used. Even if that were not true (e.g. some drugs can work well after expiration date), would you want to chance it when you need to depend on it? Also, although I never did get to use it, I heard it can really mess up the inside of the wheel, especially one with TPMS sensors. I also have AAA and the BMW Roadside Assistance (as you probably do as well). However... you might want to check out this thread if you have not already, w.r.t. towing/flatbedding the X3 (not related to a problem with a flat but just to be aware in case you find yourself without power/ignition):

Thanks noka, I am very familiar with what some call "Car Wash" mode of getting the transmission into neutral. (Not that any of my cars go through anything but a "Touch-free" car wash when its too cold to hand wash.)

I am also aware of the expiration dates for the mobility kits. Buy the time that happens, I will need new tires anyway, so a new can will be replaced at that time.

The studded tires are a bit of overkill with so little snow, no?

I've got a set of Borbet wheels from my old E83. Do these fit the F25 without any modifications?

I was planning on selling them and getting a new set of wheels for the F25, but if these will work then I just saved a lot of money.

how did this narrower tire work out for you? just picked up an X3 35i and wanted to go narrower but tirerack telling me that they didnt recommend it though they didnt really explain why. i was looking at 225/55/R18 Latitude Alpins and couldnt find a reason why this wouldnt work when 225s are a recommended size for 17 inch wheels? anyone know if it will be okay to order the 225/55R18?

It is great. I think the only reason they are not recommending 225 is because of the lower contact patch but there is absolutely no issues at all.

Studs are not really meant for snow. They are there for the ice underneath. Cold, wind and snow ends up making a nice slippery ice layer over the tarmac.

I have studded Hakka 7, and I live in Quebec, so I understand the need to have studs. The difference between studded and stud less Hakka 7s (tried both) is to be tried to believe !
