3- unlock and start.

Fix was done last year, then is a SIB out there. (they can call the Quebec City dealership, they know exaclty the problem

It is a relay that has to be changed.

The Regina dealership also called me (since I moved there) to offer the recall but it was done already (6 months ago)

It is a know problem and it will always restart fine the next day. It happens with -30 temperature and below, even if car is warm.

It happen to me twice putting gas in the car after driving it a long time, and a couple more time just stopping at the convenience store. Since the relay change, many -30 temperature and no problem.

Good luck.
can you share the SIB # with us? should be listed in the invoice.

thanks,

Mingstar88,

I too had a no-start scenario last Thursday night.

I drove home from work 15-20min. and turned the car off. Approximately 10min later I attempted to start my car and got a similar no-start condition you've described.

There was a message on the display but I forgot to make note of the error.

We took my wife's 9yr old Acura (because it always starts) that evening. When I returned home the BMW fired right up. Since I had attemtped to start the BMW several times earlier I figured I'd take it for a short drive to charge the battery.

When I pulled away I noticed my check engine light was on... (it is hidden behind the steering wheel rim).

Anyway, the next morning the car started fine and the check engine light was off.

One thing that might be an issue during extreme cold is leaving the fuel tank low. My car had below 1/4 tank and I did fill it up when I went out to charge the battery.

The fault code will reside in the ECM for a short time and can be retrieved using a scan tool.

In my area any auto parts store will read the codes for free, or the dealership could read the codes.

Please post the fault codes.

US customer service... unfortunately that doesn't happen north of the 48th parallel.

I believe the code is also stored in the key fob and can be retrieved by the service techs.

just got the x3 towed home..

Stupidly made some short trips today and then parked at a mall for a long time. initially thought it's the battery but jump start did not help.

the problem..
car starts for a second then dies. RPM goes to 1500 to 2000rpm then goes back to 0rpm. when rpm goes up, we tried to press the gas, rpm goes back down again. it's like it almost starts but then dies.

help please!
same thing happened to me, they charged the battery and updated the software

Looked at my history and they tested the power supply and they had to change the power distribution box. It is fixed since. (March 2013).

Had no problem since.

I noticed that as well last week but didn't think anything of it as it's been so cold here I just figured it had to do with that but on Tuesday morning when trying to start the engine, it would turn on but then shut off.
Shop finally got a chance to deal with it today and told me the thermostat was broken and will be replaced on Monday. No idea if that will help the situation but here's hoping.

I just noted: source MyBMW site ( maybe follow up on the plug replacement)
BMW vehicles purchased from an authorized BMW Retailer in Canada are covered by No-Charge Service Inclusive for 4 years or 80,000 kilometres, whichever occurs first. It includes scheduled maintenance work and services for your BMW (including oil, labour, and all necessary Original BMW Parts) specifically: •Engine oil change including filter
•Service brake fluid
•Service vehicle check
•Service/replacement of air filter fuel filter
•Micro filter and spark plugs

Your welcome, nice to see so many fellow members providing good insight.
Speaking of ex-warrany period, since you have an Indy, I assume you not going for the Extended Warranty. FYI, most GTA dealers were only offering $200 off. My dealer called me back and offered $400 off if I bought two. I should have countered, two for one sounds better.

yea, not gonna bother with the extended warranty. this is our first bimmer, some bad experiences with the dealer really nail the cofin. gonna miss that loaner during repair though!

- Car dies in freezing cold parking lot.
- Delivered X3 to Dealership
- Replaced Faulty Integrated Power Supply Module
- then traced a drain to a faulty JBE
- Replaced Junction Box Electronic Module...backordered from Germany.

Two and half weeks later...I get my car back.
