X3 Performance Software Upgrade
At the first of the year (or late fall 2011) BMW released a 3-Series performance upgrade for the sedan models - heard anywhere from 10-20% performance increase, and yes there is a cost associated with the software upgrade.
Does anyone know the timing for our X3s? |

Are you referring to the 335is which saw a bump to around 320HP?
I'm not sure there is any one component that can show you 10-20% power increase. A 20% bump would put you right around 360 hp at the crank. That is substantial. There are various tunes on the market for the N55 but again I don't think you'd ever see 20% power increase with just a tune alone. You'd need several new parts to reach that goal. You're correct, I sure I got the range wrong, probably more like a 5-10% increase. The dealership said is was for the 3-Series (no other specifics)

Cool. Like lbigh said, no OEM options to date.
There are some aftermarket options though as the N55 motor is very tuneable. ** and on edit, the 335is actually uses the older twin turbo N54 motor so my example above isn't 100% applicable. Last edited by n55x3; 05-09-2012 at 09:10 AM.. |
