WOW. I never even noticed the flashlight holder. It turns out the flashlight that came "free" with my previous BMW, a 2008 328 convertible (E93), fits perfectly. Thank you!

I thought it was safe to be on the forums now that the X3 is here and I'm not adding options and spending money from reading the forum…but now Lotus, you keep on showing me things and I'm convinced I need - even though I didn't even realize I needed it….damn you!!

That's what you get for owning British engineering, just be thankful that Lucus is finally dead and can't continue to plague the world with crap distributors and points. I know some of you will know what I mean

Well, the GTI was going to be my DD - it still is…but the plan was to keep it as a commuter car w/ nothing crazy mod wise. Well now a KO4 turbo kit, intercooler, intake and exhaust later…

Ok. The flashlight fitting in the slot sold me. Does your brother in law make these?

Nice find. All my previous BMW's included a rechargeable flashlight that "plugged in" in the glovebox. I think these are all but extinct now.

My X3 is still a few months away from arriving, but to keep me amused while I wait I've already bought a few things to go into it, including a torch.
What are the dimensions of this recess? Not that I'll change the torch as its absolutely brilliant - Fenix PD31, but it would be nice to know. |

The Coast Mini Tac LED Flashlight (torch) is 90 mm long and is 14 mm in diameter so is a snug fit. The diameter is critical. 1 mm smaller and it will fall out and 1mm larger probably won't fit. |

NO, the flashlight that came with my previous BMW (a 328 convertible) is a non-rechargeable cylinder that fits perfectly in the slot on the glovebox cover.
Makes me wonder if the 328 had a similar slot. |

thanks for this thread. reminded me to keep the flashlight that came w/ the 328xi (2008) i just traded in for my X3 today. fits perfectly.
question is - both the 2008 3 series and 2011 X3 have slot for flashlight, why did only the 2008 3 series came w/ a flashlight?

For those that are wanting a flashlight with more oomph (and can swallow paying over 3x more), there's also the Fenix LD01 R5, which is shorter but will throw out some serious lumens. I don't yet have my X3 yet to try it out but the specs call out a 14mm diameter.
