Mushy !
My perception of the auto gearbox in my X3 is that it seems to have gotten a little "mushy" recently
Hard to put a finger on it but it feels almost like you put your foot down and it goes like a really old fashioned slush matic .. Kind of pedal goes down and nothing really happens.only seems to happen on partial throttle ? Also on occasions it seems to hold onto high gears unnecessarily Anyone had anything similar ? I'm going to get it checked out later this week My F31 has the same engine/gearbox and a drive in that back2back confirmed that the F31 is sharp where the X3 goes mushy Sorry about the description as mushy but I'm struggling to describe it !

Reset your accelerator pedal and see if it helps. Start the car without your foot on the brake. Then press down on the accelerator pedal past the click point and hold it for ~30 seconds. Then switch the car off. Then turn on the car and you should be good.

Try switching the center console switch to 'sport'. This program does not change with driving style and should still perform with sharp gear changes. In 'comfort' mode, mine becomes similar to how you describe and needs periodically re-setting as mge92 suggests - although I think you turn the ignition on and don't start the engine - press the accelerator fully to the floor for 30 secs and then turn the ignition off. Then I think you are good to go - at least that is how I remember it!

The transmission learns how you drive and if you don't floor it, it tends to learn that you don't floor it and will become "mushy". By resetting the accelerator pedal it resets it back to factory.

Not just the X3! It happens with other BMWs. I have been using this "fix" for sometime. You just have to recognise that it happens and carry out the reset procedure on a regular basis.
