Anyone having similar issue with Msport gloss trim. Car is a few weeks old and I think this has been present since I picked it up. Only really noticeable in sunlight. Called BMW dealer today to be told it was due to soap from washing and to polish out. Anyone experience similar? And what did you polish it out with

Are you referring to exterior black gloss trim, pillar and trim around windows?

on my previous x3, the black trim had spots like it was stain by something and it was hard to get rid off. I actually ignored it after awhile. A good detail might help.

Yes. It's only on the backdoor trim which makes it more noticeable and made me think it was something in the manufacturing.

I have noticed this on mine in the past and I have used Meguiars ultimate paste wax to restore the trim. There are probably many other products that have more cutting action, but the Meguiars is very safe. I restored my Gibson headstock with this wax where all others failed and it is a great product, if expensive! (Link below to where I purchased it).

Wash it , rinse it , carefully dry it so as not to scratch it . Seal it with something like Supernatural from Dodo Juice or a high quality wax . Original problem is residue from washing with the"wrong type of wash . Lot of "it's" in the above LOL At least you have not got the epidemic problem with trims ( bright alloy effect ) that an other German maker had a few years ago !

That does look bad :-( but you have the answer above, and probably due to a previous owner using so called "hand wash" places or the dreaded auto car wash

I've had this problem on my X3 and previously on my XC90's. A little WD40 sprayed onto a microfibre cloth and then rubbed over the offending area works wonders.

I picked the car up two weeks ago brand new from BMW. Noticed it a few weeks later. So far the only people to wash it were BM when I got the grills fitted a week after collecting the car and myself a week later. I am sure it's been there since I picked it up.

Hmmm..... What have they said about it. I would be pushing them to resolve the issue.
My car was a year old ex demo and had a couple of paint imperfections. They resolved everything to my aatisfaction and that is on a nearly new car, so accept no excuses...

I just got a 2011 X3 35i m-sport with the gloss black trim and one piece of the trim on one of the rear doors actually looks RED when the sunlight hits it just right. Of course, I didnt notice it when I bought the car used. I havent tried cleaning it myself to see if its residue, but I may try the wd-40 idea posted above.

Not a great pic - but have had the same issue for quite some time. Glad to have found this thread. Definitely going to try the WD40 solution tonight.

WD40 would not be the first thing I would try. That is just masking the problem by making the whole surface oily, but it will be temporary as the sun and further washings get rid of the WD40. It looks like you just have very minor surface etching. Not much different than marks left by bird droppings on paint. You don't cover those with WD40, you polish them out. I would try a tiny drop of my trusty Mequires M105 on a cotton cloth over my finger and try rubbing them out permanently. But you can try some other polish.

Thanks for this! The first time I got a car wash on my X3 this happened to all of my windows. Going to try this to clean it when I get home.

That's M205, which is a much finer polish than M105. It might work or it might not.
