Upgrading from the Sport to the M Sport Steering wheel
My 2.0D Xdrive X3 came with the sport steering wheel which was actually nice, the leather was decent and the thickness was acceptable. However, I have gotten used to the thickness of the rim of my m3, with the dry feel and matte look of nappa leather. Thanks to our forum's classified ads section, I was able to get an unused m sport steering wheel at a very good price.
Replacement took 15 minutes at my neighborhood independent shop. Both steering wheels use the same airbag, so there is no need to replace this. Initial thoughts after about a couple of weeks use.....this is a great upgrade! The rim is really thick, though the thickness is more on the side. Its even thicker than the rim on my e92 m3! I can see why some people may find it too thick. Perfect size and feel for me though, and there is a nice cushioning when you grip it, with approximately 2mm give. The leather has that dry feel and matte look. Good thing I don't have sweaty hands! Highly recommended upgrade for those with sport steering wheels who like a nice fat steering wheel. Well done !
Nice improvement, i did the same thing on my X4 but with the News M Steering Wheel. Nicer but more expensive, you have to change everything, including the Airbag. Here is my thread : http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1220297 Thomas |
