Well, that's just a matter of opinion, and that's fine.
I always stay objective. Personally I don't like any of the Range Rovers. I have testdriven one and hated it.

I don't see much difference between an X3 with S-drive and the new Espace.
They are both crossovers with good handling, modern design and powerful engines, and they are both useless off-road....

I doubt anyone in the market for an DS SUV would consider a 2 series as a strong alternative. People buy them for their rugged looks and ride height - even if it just looks higher (Mercedes GLA). 2 series is more of an S Max audience, so I don't think it has the same appeal. I'm bang in the market (late 30's / two young kids) and like SUV's. I also love BMW's. 2 series hasn't even registered on my radar to be honest, not that i think it's a bad car - looks ok.

I've looked at swapping my X3 for an Evoque a few times, came close enough to place an order 2 months ago. But the power bothers me with a 2.0d, and also the quality of the leather in the RRE. It just looks shite. I've seen showroom cars that look like aged minicabs.

With regards the Disco, well the DS is more Land Rover than Range Rover, so it will feel probably feel more plastic fantastic than it's RRE sister. I was put of by comments in the trade press of it feeling a little too agricultural. I'm sure it will sell well, but i like the punch of a 3.0d so i doubt i'd entertain one.

I'm also sure i read somewhere that a full fat Disco would be added to the line up in 2016. It's not the only model, just the start.

Not disputing their off road capabilities. The X3 as an sDrive is not a crossover, it is an SUV or as BMW would have it, an SAV. It never has been and never will be a crossover. If you want to call it that, then you prerogative. The new espace has been changed from a people carrier to a crossover.

Like I said comparing Apples to Pears.

Anyway, this thread is all about the Discovery Sport. End of discussion.

what's the difference than between a crossover and a suv or sav ? I don't see it.
They have both an elevated driving position, have a hatchback door , both have more groundclearance , lots of space, look cool..... so what makes a car a suv / sav and what makes a car a crossover ?

Welcome to X3 ownership .

But..... no they're not. The D4 is being replaced next year with a bigger version of the DS. They will retain the two sizes with the DS replacing the FL2 and the new Discovery 5(?) will replace the D4.

Vision Concept which hints at the D5, obviously very similar to the DS:

Yes..agreed! Putting people into groups. According to pundits people are selling their Saloons (Sedans) and moving to SUVs.

The new Espace is not going to be made in Right Hand Drive, so will not be sold in the UK.

Land Rovers in particular. Not sure about Renault. My daughter had a little Twingo in 2013 and it never missed a beat. There is not much to go wrong with a car as small.

And I don't know about Land Rover / Range Rover.
But I have a Renault Koleos 4x4 now, bought it in 2010 and I did 120.000 km with it.
I NEVER had to bring it to my dealer for anything else than regular service.

Also, Renault offers a 5 year warranty ! On my new ordered X3 I only get a 2 years warranty...... I expect that my new X3 will be just as reliable as my Renault. We'll see.....

Good machine in its day. Perhaps overtaken by later 4x4 er MPV er Crossovers.

Once the new engine comes out the first generation of DS with the PSA engine will plumett in value, there was also a rumour that the new engine wouldn't arrive in the DS for at least 18 months..
Obviously slightly different specs in the Australian market regarding the spare wheel. Here the DS will come in two configurations - 5 seater with a full size spare, or 7-seater with a space-saver spare.

Agree however about the out-dated Ford and PSA carryover engines. Not only should have it been launched with the new engines, it still misses out on anything that can remotely compete with the 6-cylinder BMW engines.

As opposed to the Discovery Sport continuing the long tradition of FWD Land Rovers!

Thought the Disco Sport looked good before release, but it's already looking as dated as the Evoque already, same with the RR Sport, the main RR Vogue looks very classic and less Evoque like, RR is overplaying the Evoque design too much on most of its models.

I was ready to order a Disco Sport, but wait was too long, and then read a couple of reviews that said the X3 was still the better car. Problem with the Disco Sport is low 30s MPG again and the engine feels sluggish, I was more than happy with the 20d xDrive, and it's mid 40s MPG.
Now I have got the X3 I have no regrets, but if I could have had a Disco Sport sooner than September and with a bit of discount I would have bitten.

The Disco Sport will eat into loads of SUV sales, I know someone coming out of an E70 X5 into one, and two others coming from a Q7 and Q5 into one.
Mid 40s !! your doing well best our X3 will do is 33 round town and that's with a map on it as well.

Finally got to sit in one, (HSE) talk about creaky CHP everywhere, don't get me started on the 3rd row what a joke. Sat in a RR sport right after, that's uxurious and the level the DS should have gone for, even Evoque is more nicely done. So next is a test drive. Looking to replace my 7 year old Forester will see if this will be on the list.

What engine have you got Jon?

I have just worked out my first 6 months and 12,000 miles and I have averaged 41mpg.
