I see you can now build a 35D on BMW UK. It seems to have lost power though. They are only quoting 295hp, it's 313hp on the November price list!!
Perhaps that's whey it's only 0.4 second quicker to 62mphm I always thought the differemce should have been more

Power is UP too 313BHP and 630NM mine is on order and I drove the 6 series with this engine and it goes way better than the 3.0 D X3, mine is the M Sport arrives December.
Performance through the gears is mental.

I wouldn't trust anything you read on the UK website. When it is actually working and not just crashing your browser (rarely), it's littered with errors and missing content

The original 35D engine had a small turbo for low revs and a big one for high revs to broaden the narrow diesel powerband. What does the new 35D do, is it more like the twin scroll petrol version? If so I wouldn't have thought that would work so well, except for responsiveness.

The difference between 295 and 313 hp s quite large, I remember with my E93 it was 300 in the US and 306 in Europe, this wasn't due to a different tune, it was to do with SAE vs DIN or some such thing. I think it depends on whether you measure the engine on it's own or the engine plus ancillaries but the difference is the wrong way around.....

Many manufacturers still use the European "ECE 80/1269" rating system for their European ratings and the newer SAE "SAE Certified Power" standard for their North American ratings. Some simply apply a conversion factor to the kW rating to change it to HP. Many use the same rating because their engines easily can meet, or exceed, either specification. The SAE ratings include full accessory loading, inclusion of the vehicle's actual exhaust system and even a specification for having a full oil sump.

Typically, the SAE method results in a published rating that is 2% lower than the ECE rating. The original published spec for the X3 (F25) 35i was 306 PS ECE/DIN and 300 HP (SAE).

Published 4-wheel dyno tests of X3 35i's have produced graphs that typically peak at around 283 HP at all (4) wheels. Correcting for an estimated minimum drive-line loss of 11 percent, that means the 35i's N55 engine actually produces something like 314 HP at the crankshaft (A/C compressor off).

The other complicating factor is that the SAE specification states "...the engine must be capable of producing at least the published HP rating". The SAE Certification requires that a random sampled engine is actually "pulled" from the production line with no selection by the manufacturer. The engine can produce more and a manufacture can choose to list a lower rating if desired. This is sometimes used for marketing reasons, and/or for insurance rating purposes.

One other complicating factor is that (1) European horsepower (PS) = 0.736 kW. while (1) SAE HP = 0.746 kW.
Therefore 315 PS = 231.84 kW = ((1/0.746) * 231.84) = 310.8 HP. Exactly the same amount of power, just expressed via different standards.

The current European practice of expressing power in kilowatts seems to be a better standard, but is still subject to differences in the way the engine is operated when the power is measured.

I am not so sure about the Spiderbox, from what I have heard it just increases common rail PSI which ain't going to be good for many miles without problems, a re-map would be better IMO but I don't think the 35D will need one. The 3.0 D could be good with a re-map.

BMW Australia have said up to now that they wont bring in the X3 35d because - they claim - it will take sales away from the X5 40d. Its a pretty stupid argument IMO given that I was told by two separate BMW salesman that they sell very few X5 40d - most are the 30d. This is the same argument they have used about also not bringing in the X3 35i.
