2012 x3 28i hail damage ---

On Thursday, March 29, 2012 the city of McAllen, Texas suffered a lot of hail damage throughout the northern part of the city, which is where I live and where the BMW Dealership is located. Their inventory was damaged severely and were only left with 12 vehicles in good condition. Those 12 were the ones that were inside the showroom.
My X3 has dents all over on the left side caused by the hail. The tail lights broke and the right side mirror was shattered. The sunroof wasn't damaged but the roof was damaged. I took it in for service to get checked and their said that water was also found inside the intakes. I'm still waiting on my insurance adjuster to go and conduct an inspection of the vehicle, but the service dept at the dealership told me that my truck might be considered a total loss because of all the dents in the front, side, top, and back. It will be difficult to fix. I really don't know much when it comes to fixing cars but I know that I'm worried because I wouldn't want my truck to get fixed and then for me to experience problems later on & also for safety issues.. I just see how they can fix the whole body if the top is connected to the sides of the body of the truck..
Has anyone else had experiences like this ??

I'm sure someone would love to buy a salvaged x3 with only cosmetic damage.

Man, sorry that happened.
I would push for having it totaled.
Why was your car there? Just for service or were you about to take delivery?
How many miles are on it?
Pics would be good. Let us know what happens.

If it is a write off... On a positive note, you'll get the new n20 engine and other "recent" additions... And it will be brand spanking new again...maybe a chance to order those features you missed on the first round

No wonder the Paintless Dent Removers in Texas pull in millions of dollars in sales after hail storms.

That sounds nasty, glad we don't get much hail here.

Exactly. The PDR guys can probably get a lot of it out - not sure what's safety related, it's just a bunch of little dents.

I bought a 135i in 2008. The day after I picked it up at the Performance Center, it got pounded in a hailstorm. The PDR guy did an amazing job, fixing literally hundreds of dings on the roof, hood, trunk, fenders and side pillars without a trace. Seems like the cost was about $3k, including replacing both rear quarter windows, far from totaled.

Funny (sort of), I'm actually at my State Farm office right now in McAllen. My fiancée's X3 was also damaged in last week's storm. It wasn't as bad as your description, but it took a beating nonetheless. I should hear the results of the inspection soon and I'll update. It was an unfortunate event, but after seeing a guy in here with a beat up, brand new, 6 series, I guess I realize that we (my fiancée and I) lucked out.

Hey, guys.
I'm sorry I haven't uploaded pics. I wasn't able to take pictures until the next day but because we've been busy fixing other things, I haven't uploaded any just yet. I will later on tonight. As for those who were wondering... My X3 was at my apartment complex, not at the dealership, but the dealership is like 5 minutes away. My X3 also had the technology package, sports package, premium package. Fully loaded... The only thing I consider "missing" is the 300 horsepower, being that it only has 240.
I haven't been able to drive it because it is still in the dealership. They didn't want me to drive it because they said that somehow more damage could be done due to the water in the intakes.
I'll keep you guys updated with the pics, don't know if you will be able to see the damage as much since the truck is alpine white, but I'll post them..
The estimate for the intakes and other things were 2K..

Fellas. We got a check for 2200 dollars. Unlike the OP our vehicle did not have water in the intakes.
The adjuster seemed to really push towards us getting the X3 fixed via PDR. I've never had this done to a vehicle. Would you recommend getting a full body shop repair or a PDR assuming both run the same amount of $?? The reason I ask is because the adjuster said that we shouldn't be messing with paint that is so new and he also mentioned that BMW doesn't sell original paint :/
Thanks in advance

if possible, just push for a new x3, especially the 2013 one. you never know what the hail damage would be a cancer at the time when the warranty is up.

Good Luck~
