XLine with M-Sport Wheel- Configurator Says "Yes"

I'm as surprised as you are- could be a problem with the code/logic, but the pictures and - more importantly - the description accurately describe the spec.

Even the link works...

Am I dreaming?

How were you able to add the M-sport steering wheel and sport automatic transmission to an X-line? When I click on your link they're present and I can modify the configuration and they remain. But, when I go to and use the configurator from scratch I can't find anyplace to add those.

Yea- it's no fun. The interior is fantastic, but you really can't enjoy one without the V8 and DHP ($4,500 option). At which point, I start cross shopping with the RRS and things start getting expensive quickly. This is a weekend/ long haul vehicle for us, so I need to balance out need for practicality with my desire not to feel like I'm piloting a wayward yacht when I hit a corner or uneven pavement.

On the X3, my wife and I loved how our '11 35i M-Sport drove, but I can't stand the new M-Sport... so I'm in a pickle. I want sport seats and the sport auto, but don't want to order M Sport.

I'm not entirely sure what happened with the configurator, but I've told my dealer that I'll send him a deposit of he can order that spec. Early read is- "can't do it", but they're following up with BMW NA.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks for the feedback w/the F15 and I'm surprised you aren't happy with it. I've been debating selling my E70 diesel and either getting an F15 or the LCI F25. I'm like you, and want something that handles well and is spirited. I'm worried the X5 will continue to feel too big for us.

I hear you about the MSport LCI F25, but I think it is growing on me and I would never order one without the MSport given the options it comes with. I may strike a deal soon, if my dealer gives me a few more bucks on the E70

I'd move quick on your E70- once the F15 14s start hitting used lots E70 pricing will take a hit.

And yea- test drive an F15. It's a great option for those who need the space/third row. With DHP and the V8, it's an impressive machine... but we don't need the space and I any really can't stomach S65-like mileage in anything other than an M3. For us, the (dramatic) increase in luxury/space was definitely not worth the reduction in driving dynamics (vs. the X3).

SAP was around longer than "lines".

There's no dogma in this business and I'm not alone here. Remember, there are existing analogues; sport line and m sport coexist on the 3-series and X1. If they're wise- they'll offer every permutation that the market wants to buy.

i think if that was to happen it would get sloppy, having different features from different "line style".

i actually like the Msport on 2015, its very aggressive. Pics online doesnt justify when you actually see it in person. So far many people that has seen it have complimented me on new x3, even the color carbon black .

BMW actively markets/differentiates itself based on it's manufacturing prowess and ability to build on-demand to each customer's needs/wants (in your case, the M Sport).

Like I said, many models in the line-up offer a 'sport' and 'M-sport' lines/packages (X1, 3 Series, 2 Series, etc.). Other models offer things these options a-la carte (F15, F10, etc.).

There's nothing sloppy about offering these options separately from 'lines'...or as part of a package (like the '11 to '13 SAP for the X3).

Lines, which- again- are a relatively new and unfortunate development (very volume oriented/Audi-like).

I'd understand the decision if there were still inflating residuals and worried about oddly optioned, high-MSRP X3s hitting CPO lots... but they're not, the X3 has one of BMW's worst residuals.

Anyway- glad you like the M-Sport package, it's not for me, but I'm glad they offer it.

BMW uses the 'line' model in all countries but allows sport seats and the paddle shift transmission to be added as options, regardless of line. Except, for the US. Why NA alone has these restrictions seems strange especially since order/delivery times in the US are short so dealers don't have to carry cars with those options in stock.

Perhaps we set up a poll/petition. Something like- "for these features, would you;"

"Option M-Sport"
"Go without"
"Cross-shop the competition (where available)"

Sadly- I'm in the later camp. I'm scheduled to test drive an SQ5 Saturday.

If it's not clear from my signature- I'm definitely a BMW enthusiast... but in this case, not an apologist.

Oh well.

You'll love the SQ5 and I too drink the BMW Kool Aid...I drove one a couple months ago. Only problems I had was the cargo area is very tight--the size reminded me of a VW GTI/Golf. I really disliked the wheel gap, ridiculous why NA-spec SQ5s ride so much higher than their Euro-spec equivalents. And I also think the interior is getting long in the tooth, but I love the exterior (although it could be a bit more aggressive to differentiate it from less Q5s)

riM3 - I'm with you. As it stands not being able to get the sport seats without the Msport package combined with obligatory runflats is a deal breaker for me. My lease is up in a month and I'll probably look elsewhere. If you're considering an SQ5 you should definitely try a Macan as well. If optioned reasonably the price differential is fairly small and in my mind it's a better handler with a better ride, better than an X3 as well. Biggest negative is limited cargo space behind the the rear seats.
