2013 BMW X3 Question

Hello folks,

If I get a 2013 BMW X3 without Lightning pkg (Xenons) can I still add it afterwards? I don't want to buy a new X3 but found a lightly used less than 15k miles 2013/14 X3 with M Sport pkg but 1 of them doesn't have Xenons.

About how much roughly would it cost to add Xenons?
If a 2013+ X3 is bought without Lightning pkg will it require special modules for it?

Thanks

Just a wild guess off the top of my head, going with all BMW parts, 2 xenon bulbs=$1000, 2 ballast=$2000, 2 wire harness=$ 400, 2 headlight housing=$2000 and 4 hours of labor=$600 for a total of $6000.
If I were you, I would keep looking.

My experience has been that retrofitting almost anything on a BMW is either prohibitively expensive or impossible. More than other cars, it's essential to get everything exactly the way you want it when you order.

Retrofitting a 3 series will be similar cost, unless you go with aftermarket parts. The difference is that there a lot more aftermarket option for the 3 series compare to the X3.

if you dont know the info please dont post it.
bulbs are 200 a piece smh

from experience its pricey to retrofit xenons to plug n play with ur car but its possible. headlight must be open and rewire to avoid programming the car.

the right way is buying headlights and having bmw service center program your car to accept xenons. installing xenons without program they would not work at all. Program the car may take 4hrs to full day from my experience.

you are better off getting the x3 with xenons

very helpful

is that programming not related to coding the car to accept Xenons ?

i am not sure if its same thing or not, but i went thru all this with my 3series. My bmw service center could not program my car to accept xenons, they had it full day. I could blame the tech for not doing it right but i got lucky on ebay to find xenos OEM that were plug n play.

Find out thru service center if they can program your car to accept the xenons.

if not you may still get xenons put some1 handy with wires can wire the light to just plug n play but adaptive part may not work.

if your in the process of looking for X3, i suggest you order it. My gf placed an order for space grey 28i with xenon package and parking distance package with roof rails

I guess someone doesn't understand what the term "wild guess" means. You are asking the average joe to open up his headlight on a $50000 car, are you out of your mind?

YOU need to sharpen your reading skills, I never suggested that idea to him.

i explain what needs to happen in order to have xenons work without programming. Theres alot of more work involve then just opening the housing.

The OP ask how to convert halogen to HID and your post said one option was to open up the head light assembly to save on programming cost. I know that there is a lot more work in opening the housing, that why I thought you were nuts just for even bringing the idea up.

Not sure what part that website you posted was selling, but $300 for a OEM F25 HID adaptive headlight assembly seems too good to be true. Here is one selling on Ebay for $1322.

I found another X3 about 8k less than MSRP has everything but M Sport pkg, guess I'll have to do without it & just get the nice 19" or 20" rims instead.

Can the M Sport pkg be added ? Correct me if im wrong is it just steering wheel, (dynamic suspension if chosen), side skirt, front/rear bumper

Maybe I don't need the M-Sport pkg as much as the other things that are more important. I'm looking at side by side pics with the 19 and 20" rims with Non-M Sport pkg & M-Sport pkg and those bigger wheels look good on the car regardless.

Was the sport transmission with paddle shifters included in M-Sport in 2013, or was it separate?

I strongly suggest you get an X3 with the lightning package, it will save you a hella lot of headaches.

I also recommend if you are going to be buying a used one, don't just stick to one dealer, look around other nearby dealerships on what they have in stock ~

I actually agree - xenons are amazing - you see so much more at night - plus seeing your car drive towards you with the cool LED angel eyes - does it every time for me!

Been looking at dealers on ebay, they're beating the pricess off any other dealer website and bmw site prices so far.

ya you're right, just thought maybe adding Xenons since the M Sport pkg looks more expensive to add.. but I guess I can live without the M Sport pkg, the Xenons are more important.

Here you go again, adding on oem package as a after thought. Do it once and do it right, if you want M-sport, its much cheaper to get it when you buy the car. 19 or 20" rims in NYC might not be a good idea, unless you get tire and rim insurance. If you want a sporty SUV, you are forgetting about the most important option, the N55 engine upgrade, Skip the MSport and go for the X3 35i, the 35i already comes with xenon and sport steering wheel.

You're totally right. But I am looking towards the N20 (X28i) for the fuel economy and put it on sport mode when I need to be sporty or fast. The N55 (X35i) is def sexier out the box like you said comes with Xenon & Sport Steering + Nicer rims but looking at the fuel economy its not as good as the N20 or am I wrong?

Thanks
